the more i think about it the less i think they'll ever be on so it's kind of a waste.

they don't really "show" during the day and at night i'll have my headlights on. so i get to turn on my running lights to turn them on when i park at a show...at night? hm. kind of a waste.

and my car is slow, hah. i'm more looking forward to the mpg gain than the +20whp from the tune after the headers. and hopefully it sounds cooler.

at what point do bolt ons make a tune worth it?

headers is all so far right? must be a few other cheap mods that would be worth doing?

i have an intake already. anything more is no longer a "bolt on" as far as making more power is concerned.

sounds like after the headers and a tune i should pick up somewhere between 20-30whp, but i'm not overly concerned about the gains.

In stock form the LS based motor "tunes" are lousy and boring really. They run retarded rich, dipping down to nearly 10.9 AFR commanded, they have TONS of torque mngt holding power back. They do it because they are suppose to driven by anyone at anytime anywhere they want, it must be able to be reliable and have no issue's.

I have no proof of anything from the tune I did on my own 5.3, but just from making it run leaner (around 12.5-12.8ish) and taking away almost all of the engine's tq mngt and leaving the trans tq mngt in place, I bet I gained 10-15hp atleast if not a couple more. Thats with running 89 octane and no adjustment to timing, just a VE and MAF tune as those are key to a smooth powerband.

I bet with the headers and a good tune you will pick up 20-30hp no problem over stock, hell maybe even slightly more because it's a better motor than my 5.3.

They should have just done it that way from the factory.

Not sure about the top portion tho...that screams I'm a Neon SRT4 to me.
