    Did you cut the motor with a wizz wheel or something? Remember they are permanent magnet motors.

    It is a little close for the headers hopefully that will be enough. I would like to see how it works out. What about the motors are they like a drop in replacement for the factory motors? Or do they have a different bolt pattern/shaft size?

    Measure? I couldn't find anything large enough so I got one that held 4 gauge and 8 gauge and drilled them out to accept the larger wire.

    I miss having a garage to work in too, but that's where I keep my stuff. I have to take it to work if I want to work in the AC.

    I tapped it with a hammer. It was right next to a vent so I can see how far in it went. Nothing moved under it or anything like that, I think it'll be fine. I'm pretty sure the motors and blades are bigger, I'll measure to make sure.

    Yep, throwing in the towel on the 9C1 fans. They are nowhere near bolt in. Maybe on a Impala. On a Grand Prix, one fan hits the headers or the other does. Without major modification this isn't going to work. Taking them back to the JY on Saturday, we'll see what I can't come up with.

    I managed to get my fans off the header by modding the two top fan mounts. I shortened and welded them which pulled the fans at least 1/4" off the headers. And that was even with a rad that's almost 1/2" thicker.

    The GP's mount is totally different that the Impalas, it has clamps that go up agains the radiator to hold it forward, the Impala (as you know) has little pegs on the fan that the mounts fit over. I'm thinking the Impala either has the core support slightly farther forward, or the radiator sits a little father in the core support. It's not much, but it's enough for me to scrap the project. the most clearance I would be able to get would be maybe 1\8 inch total.

    I think you will be fine. Mine were touching my fan with no heatshield for awhile and I never had issues. I might have 1/4-1/2 inch clearance now.

    Eh, I'll just toss the stock fans back in there. I wasn't really having a problem cooling before, this was just one of those things that could have been nice. Did you notice all that much difference with the 9C1 fans? How long were they touching like that? Mine would be indefinitely since I don't really see a way around it. It was the driver side fan touching. I suppose I could always glue a piece of header wrap on that side too...

    I forgot you had done the swap, so you tell me, was it really a worth while swap?

    I didn't do a fan swap, only rad. See my issue was I missed one setting in the tune to enable the pcm to control the fans. Guess Reptile did too cause he's the one that did my base tune. So I thought I had a plugged rad since I was always over 200° when the tune was set at 190. Did the rad swap and my temps stayed the same. Then I found that setting and boom, much cooler temps. I probably wouldn't have done the swap had I known. But, meh....I paid 20 bucks for the new gtp rad so I'm OK with it. Temps do drop very quick as soon as the fans kick on.

    I already have the stock fans back in so I'll leave it. The worked fine, you know me, always trying to find something better. Like my truck. You think it needs 8,500+ CFM e-fans?

    Dual Taurus e-fans, on a high\off\low switch I have in the cab so it's never on high...ever. I have dual batteries and a 160a 3G in there. I've though about putting a CS144 in there instead haha.

    Lol, I have a 95 Taurus too and it has a great fan. The Thunderbird SC fan is a 2 speed fan, it's actually got 2 separate windings instead of a dropping resistor. They move a ton of air, they have to the SC radiator is about 12" more narrow than a standard Thunderbird radiator. Man I am going to have to go see what else will fit, I gotta get a bigger rad. I hit 215* cruising on the freeway again yesterday. What's funny is that you can watch the IAT drop as I am at speed, but the temp starts climbing.

    There was a guy who put a Taurus fan on his GP, but I didn't really find much info on it.

    Jeff, I know you don't believe me, but lowering your fan temps WILL drop highway temps. I will still offer scan logs as proof if you need them

    Thing is I don't' have trouble in traffic it's only when I get on the open road doing 65 mph. In traffic it will rarely reach 206 (190-194), but as soon as I hit the freeway it starts to climb.

    It's not that I don't believe you, but usually the speed at which the fans shut off trumps the fan temperature so at speed the fans wouldn't come on as you are starting to accelerate if you weren't running the AC. Now the high speed fans on the other hand would trump the speed since it's sensing a over temp and it needs to bring the temp down. I don't need the fan to turn on at a lower temp I need a larger radiator. I looked at it the other day and it's barely 5/8" thick and that is too small for a car down here. You have to remember the barometric pressure is greater (denser air), the temps are higher and the humidity is, well for Columbus about the same for the most part, super high. This wasn't happening when the temps were in the 80's but now that it is 99+ I think this car needs a 1" thick core. I would like to see what out there as far as bolt in, Impala is out it looks like Booba mentioned a 96' Lumina I think...

    My thing is that at a steady state cruise the airflow through the condenser and radiator should be plenty to cool the engine

    1996 Monte CarloZ34, I think. The transmission cooler fittings are different though, so you'd either just run a stand alone cooler or buy adapter fittings. There's a thread somewhere around here...

    Guess I wasn't considering where you live. And I haven't driven mine enough in this heat to know what its gonna do above 90. But the only table I've seen in the tune to disable fans is somewhere north of 100 mph. I forgot to double check bit there is no shut off at highway speeds. I used to never see below 200+ until I figured out how to turn the fans down. Even with the 04 gtp 1" radiator it was still 200+.

    That is very interesting I didn't see fitment on the 04+ that you asked about other than the trans lines issue. I can do an external cooler. Glad to see that the low coolant will still fit. I am going to have the hit the JY this weekend.
