I have my replacement alarm, I just need the weather to not be icey, lol. The alarm works great, I think the remote has problems though. Mainly range related, at times it's great, other times it won't work from 10 feet away. The remote resets every so often as well, so that's what leads me to believe something is wrong. Omega (Excalibur's manufacture) agreed with me and had me get a replacement from the vendor (faster than pulling mine out, shipping it in, etc.). If this one has problems, I can upgrade to the 1 mile version for $80 and all I have to to do is swap the antenna, brain, and use the new remotes. I'll probably do the upgrade either way, unless this new one is a LOT better.

The Memphis amp is sitting on a shelf for now, until my dad comes down for a visit later this month. I did pull my sub amp to upgrade the power wires. This amp is crazy, the wires just bolt down to the circuit board. It's a 700+wrms amp and it only had 8 AWG wires, so I stepped it up to 4 AWG crimped and soldered connections. I also scraped away the top layer of the coating to give the wire more contact surface (I should have gotten a pic of this). Once installed, I covered everything in liquid electrical tape, to be safe. I'm letting that set up and dry over night, then I'll reinstall the amp tomorrow. Here's some pics...
This liquid tape is like a thick paint on plastidip, it'll peel off if I ever need to:

Comparison to the original power wire, I also had to wrap the ground wire in electrical tape because I didn't have any black wire, lol. I used the blue wire for positive because the main run of wire for this amp's positive is blue:

Depending on weather and work, I'll swap out the alarm this week, and go from there...

Finally some warm enough weather to put Peal N Seal in the trunk, so I did. Didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked on the car today so I didn't get much done. I did the 95% of the Peal N Seal in, the rest will wait til I know exactly where the amp grounds will be. I also was able to sand the box down to fit, my belt sander made quick work of that, lol. I brought the box inside for the night to make a gasket for the Sub and put a bead of silicon on all the joints, then it'll all go back together tomorrow. I did get some pics though, I'll get more with the sub out and such. It dusk at 4:30PM here so the camera took a blueish picture...still trying to find a way to post smaller pics, but photobucket doesn't have any thumbnail links:

Here's a pic of the box on the couch, lol:

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be even nicer so it'll get finished up then!

Pulled the sub back out, sanding more of the front and adding a gasket to seal it more. Snagged a few pics of the interior. My dad deals with pro audio and had some heavy duty speaker connectors laying around so I used one. They are really hefty, he says they're $35 each and I wouldn't be surprised. I just drilled 2 holes, ran the wire through then filled the holes back up with glue, so it's still sealed there, lol. Tomorrow I'll be screwing another piece of MDF down to the top that'll have the Infinity amp mounted to it, so nothing will be on the floor except the box. It'll slide 4 inches under the strut tower brace, and give me 18 inches on the side of the box to fold the back seat down.

    Amp on the rear:

All back together, and it's probably the most sealed box I've ever built, lol. I'm really looking forward to having my trunk back. Here's a pic and a video of it being sealed and all:

It's a 12 inch 4 Ohm W3. Thanks, it all works in my head, so here's hoping it'll work in real life, lol.

It's amazing the difference a proper sized box makes, and how crisp and clear the bass is in a sealed box. I've had Infinity References and Kappa Perfects, and Kicker CVR 12s in the past. The Infinity's always had the tinsel lead break of the wire connector for some reason, had it happen 3 times. My first CVR broke a voice coil, the second Comp CVR 12 was pretty damn awesome in my Civic. This W3 is a bit better I think, but this amp is also better than what I had before (Pioneer 360w RMS @ 2 Ohms).

It's basically done! Install didn't go exactly as planned, I didn't want it centered, I wanted it off to the passenger side, but oh well. Sounds great and everything is a very solid connection. The Infinity amp is grounded to the strut tower, sanded to bare metal, and the sub amp is grounded to the trunk floor where I drilled a hole, sanded, and used a STB U bolt thing, lol. Lights barely but noticeably dim under full tilt at idle, so oh well. Eventually I'll make a new floor for the trunk and everything will get new carpet then. For having 2 power wires, an external crossover, 4 channel amp, and sub amp, it's as pretty clean install, really:

Sounds GREAT but I'll fine tune the EQ and such tomorrow.

I'm waiting to carpet it until I redo the floor so the new carpet all matches. Just got home from a test drive to get groceries. DAMN. No noise, all fantastic, clear music. I still think it'll need a beefier alternator, but other than that, I'm happy. My trunk light was demolished in the process, so I picked up some LED fog lights to replace them, haha. This'll be good.

Well folks, it's that time of year again. Tax time. Cool things are about to happen, but nothing as drastic as last year. First up is RUST. Rockers and strut towers are up first. I have a buddy that's done plenty of body work and will work for beer, so it might not cost all that much. That said, if I need to spend some $ on it, I will, but only if I have to. I found "slip on" rocker panels at Rockauto for $91 shipped to my door, I'm thinking that's the way to go on those. I've also been looking at POR 15 for preventing this **** again. Yes, I'll be covering the outer rockers as well since it gets covered by the side skirt. I'm ordering 3 kits that say it'll do 2 coats on 6 square feet, You guys think that is enough to do the rockers and strut towers?

    POR 15 kit:
    http://www.por15.com/SUPER-STARTER-KIT--Black_p_11.html

    Rockers:
    http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/cata...SHERMAN+84404L

Any advice? We'll be pulling the side skirts off this weekend just to see what the damage is so far.

    Strut towers...bleh:

I'll also be ordering retros, Addco rear sway, and POSSIBLY Vogtlands, if I can find a good deal. OH and of course a smaller pulley, if I can scrounge up a pulley puller from someone.

You mean face it toward the back of the car, but move it closer to the back? I was trying to save trunk space by this, that'd kill it more. I thought about pointing it at the back seat, but I dunno. Everything is already mounted to the box to have it sit the way it is, so I might just leave it. who knows. I'll have to rip it all out to do the strut towers anyways...

mine faces the back seat and is pushed up as far to the seat back as it will go. i have no idea if its wrong or right, but with no grill on my box i didn't want it getting hit with all the crap in my trunk.
