Okay, i got all the bolts off that hold the bags on. It was unbelievable how difficult it was, im losing the allen bolts for sure in favor of regular hex bolts. I got the brackets cut off one to get an idea where I want them mounted on the new struts.

As you can see, the new ones are bit taller.

so the brackets will probably end up around here for the fronts at least.

I'm hoping to really get some work done this week. I just have to get the struts welded, my air setup finished, and talk to insurance on wednesday about my accident

That bracket placement won't work. Way to low, that's in the axle right there.

You're probably right. And i havent really measured it for real yet, just eyeballed it. I need to be decently close to this just to get to the same low as the old ones. I have almost an inch to make up to remain the same.

An inch is pushing it I think.

Yeah. I'd love to go lower but i'd be super happy to keep it the same and just have everything working again

That makes me feel a little un easy. Like he said it'll never clear the boot/axle. My stick out about an inch (if that much) past the bracket itself and then with the upper mounts it probably simulates them being another inch lower and that's the absolute lowest for the strut base itself its darn close.

And even though this wouldn't pertain to you since our struts look different but I had to cut the bottom of the bracket to clear the boot the upper mounts.

Hopefully you get at least what you had before.

measure before you commit. if it's too low you'll just destroy the boots/axle as stated by the two guys above.

your next choice is to figure out some type of elevated top mount to give you more headroom above.

An elevated mount would be interesting

Sorry for my bad terms I'm about to use. I don't know as much about suspension lol

Looks like the shaft of the old one is threaded down more. Couldn't you turn down the shaft of the other one thread it. Chop an inch off the top? Or would that inpact the travel too much? Or even gain a 1/2 there and a 1/2 at bottom?

yes, people do that, too. they add threads and chop a section off the top.

That's just one of the things I see different visually from the 2 and I can't imagine 1/2-1" is gonna hurt too much. Where as smashing the axel will

You guys were right, I dont have much space to deal with up front. Its looking like as far as the bottom mounts go, i'm only going to be able to get the same drop as before. I could mess around with the top hat idea though. I'm not really comfortable adding threads and chopping because these new ones compress really low compared to the old ones. I may be able to take advantage of that but so far i think i need all of the spacers and washers that are there. But I think I can get away with something like this. Only about 3/4" is sticking out now but thats all I can do.

Alright, I've been doing work lately. My friend got my struts all welded up and I reassembled them last night. The trunk setup is coming along pretty nicely, the wiring is 98% done and I just need to start the plumbing. My replacement wheels came in today so that'll be the last step probably tomorrow sometime if I can knock out everything else. Now I'm just pondering getting longer studs for the rear and finally putting those spacers on. Does anyone know what size the stock ones are?

I believe that the ARP studs are a little longer than stock.

Okay thanks I'll check them out.

Well I'm back in business! I got almost everything finished today. I got all of the plumbing done minus a small air leak and now I just need to make a cover for the back. I still haven't gotten my pressure gauge wired up but I got all the struts in to see how they'll work. Somehow I think I managed to get a tiny bit lower than before. Im gonna try and get my bent wheel sorted out at the shop tomorrow and hopefully get back to driving this thing instead of working on it.

It's a super tight fit with everything. I almost couldn't get the compressors to fit

The back is sooo close to sitting on the lip but I couldn't manage it. I think its about 1/4" lower than before.

excuse the bird feeder in the way

Those are the broken ones that are still on there from when some guys at my apartment complex busted them. I just removed the outer lense of plastic since there were only a few broken peices left
