Ah....house shopping....I just went through this.

Expect to spend another $5k once you are in the house to get it somewhat the way you want it.

Have fun. I love having my own garage.

Yeah, probably more than 5k haha. Some people say I get carried away with my projects....but yeah, we're excited. I still want to get the car done, but a house is my priority at this point.

It doesn't take long for 400 HP to feel normal. Once the STi is done and I think I'm comfortable with the power level I'm taking driving courses so I can learn that I'm not at all comfortable with it.

I started a new job 3 months ago, got married 2 months ago, and bought a house a month ago, so the STi has just been sitting. Maybe I'll finish it someday. I have an 02 WRX that's my DD now, so the thought has crossed my mind to pick up a used, stock motor, drop it in the STi, sell it/all the parts, and move on. I'm disenfranchised with the car at this point, my engine builder fell through so I picked everything up but it's all just in pieces and I don't have time to deal with it. I have so much money into it and I don't really feel like dumping more in it. I'd rather pick up a Supra or 135i. I definitely don't want to see the car go but I really don't know that I'm still interested in it either. Pretty lackluster update, but that's where I'm at.

if you're no longer interested with it then sell it off. it's not worth taking up space in your life.

moving onto something new is never a bad decision.

It's been a while since I've updated this thread, I've been busy and only recently have gotten back to car things. In June, I started a new job about 70 miles from my old job. In August my girlfriend of 8 years became my wife. In September, we moved into our first house. The STi hasn't been a priority with everything else going on.

Quick recap - I dropped the engine off on March 6th 2014. I picked it up in pieces on October 4th. 7 months and all that happened was the head work and the block was machined...partially my fault since I had a few other things going on and wasn't able to keep on the builder to get it done, but still not acceptable. A friend and I took his outback and I picked all my parts up. I'm gathering my thoughts and expenses, and taking everything to a different shop to have the longblock assembled.

Last weekend, we got the STi to my house on a trailer (It was still in my parents garage, where its sat since September 2013 when this all started).

I'm ready to get back to work on this. I have a few things in motion that may or may not work out, and if they do I'll be swapping out some parts for others (KillerB header instead of the GTspec, Spoolinator with GTX30xxR instead of the Dom3), but the overall build isn't changing much.

For now, this is the only picture update I have:

The car and I are in the same location for the first time in months, so I can slowly start working on things. Unfortunately I only have a two-car garage..first world problems. My wife's 2.5i gets one side and the STi gets the other. Unfortunately my WRX has to sleep outside now, but technically it's the DD, it's about time it gets treated like one.

Since moving to the greater Cleveland area I have easy access to e85. I've decided to ditch the water/methanol injection in favor of running e85, so I'm selling the Aquamist kit and id1000's. I'm going to put off buying injectors until the last minute because I'm trying to hold out for the new id1700's, or if they haven't been released yet I'll grab 1300's.

I also am going to be working with Innovative Tuning in Buffalo, it's just more convenient for me to get to Buffalo than Chicago from Cleveland (about 190 miles vs about 350 miles each way).

I'm dropping the block, heads, and internals off to Moore Performance in Pittsburgh on January 3rd and once the longblock is done I'll be able to start putting the rest together here.

My plan in to get the engine on a stand in the basement and figure out PCV plumbing and mock up fueling during the cold months, and once it starts warming back up, drop it in. I'm hoping to have the car running on a break-in tune in April.

I'll have some pictures of longblock assembly here in a few weeks, I'm glad to finally be making progress.

    The cool wall:

Parts to be taken to Moore:

Nice, I had a good time talking to the guys there today, I'm excited for when they they finish the longblock up. Those guys definitely know what they're doing.

I'm familair with TPG, I know a bunch of people running their tunes and a good friend of mine has a tune scheduled for Tuesday. I'm going with Innovative tuning in Buffalo since Mike is Moore's preferred tuner and tunes all of their builds.

Thanks man. Unfortunately the garage is detached and doesn't have a real heater in it, but it is fully insulated so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

The parts are successfully dropped off at Moore Performance!

My 02 WRX died on us on the way there but after many failed attempts to get going again we were back on the road. I've been having some issues with it and they're so intermittant I can't trace them. I had to stop by the Subaru dealership on the way to grab a few parts and the 2015 WRX is looking like a pretty nice daily at this point...

An update for anyone who's interested, the car is up and running. I trailered it up to Buffalo to have the break-in tune done at the end of July and have been working out a few kinks since then. Overall the car runs really well, I've put about 1500 miles on it since first start, although I'm still on a break in tune with low timing, electronically limited to 5000 RPM's and wastegate pressure. I'm driving it back up to Buffalo in a few weeks to get the 93 octane power tune done. I wanted to do e85 this year as well but the stations here are already on their lower ethanol transition blends and I want to have the tune done of the highest ethanol content possible so that will wait until next year. Cobb is supposedly releasing full flexfuel integration by the end of 2015 anyhow, which will be really convenient it that's the case.

Anyhow, here's some pictures (lighting was very harsh):

I'm already wishing I would have gone with a smaller turbo, but hopefully with the cams and head work I can run it out a bit further before power starts to drop off. For now I'm looking to change up the wheels and pick up a factory wingless trunk. We'll see.

Here's the full mod list from the engine build. I added some other things as well, some more suspension/chassis stuff and I'm sure I've forgotten some things. I tried to do it all right, but staying with a stock location turbo was a mistake. Rotated offers better fitment and faster spool, but it's all together now and I'll run it this way for a while.

    Looks good Kyle!

I can see what you mean with the 264 and a larger turbo. That looks to be a GT30 size from the looks of it, that will take some time to spool...probably 3,800 there abouts, maybe better with the billet wheel so 3,500ish? Maybe with more power you will feel better about it.

I'm looking at building my engine soon and I'm going with stock cams that are only slightly more aggressive and I really wanted a GTX2967R but decided a td04-20t would be a good solution of keeping that lowish/midrange beef.

Thanks Drun...Smurf Diddler who until recently was Drunkie. It's a stock location 3076R, a bit on the big side for a stock location turbo but others have had really good results with them, especially on "teh moonshine". A dom 2.5 is a stock location 3071R and probably would have been a better choice. SHooting for 23-24psi on 93 and 25-27 psi on e85, with the 10cm^2 hot side I probably won't see full boost until after 4000 (4200ish most likely )even though it's a billet wheel and ball bearing. The 10cm is more track/road course friendly and the 8cm is more autox friendly.

If you're looking for something with GT28xx-30xx potential but with faster spool/low end, check out the EFR's. lots of good results coming in on lots of applications from what I've seen. The EFR 6258 might be a good option depending on your goals. I'm already thinking if I keep the car long enough I'll switch to a twinscroll 7670.
