I like to play the game where the things that I do have function, if that's what you mean? ;) I know that's not your main concern and that's okay, but with where I'm headed with this car I have to keep things like this in mind. I'm going to be tracking/autocrossing the car this year and I've completely blown my suspension budget with that in mind. If everything goes well the car will eventually be a weekend toy/street legal track day car.
My current wheel/tire setup is 17x8" Enkei GTC01s with Yokohama S-Drive tires in 225/45/17. The GTC01s weigh 18lbs/wheel, the tires weigh 24lbs/tire. That's 42lbs each, total weight. I want to be under 40lbs per corner.
If I got RPF1s they would be 17x8". I'll be running Conti DW's, 235/45/17s this year either way. The RPF1s weigh 15.6lbs/wheel, the DW's weigh 21lbs/tire. 36.6lbs each is definitely something I'd be happy with. The DW's on my current wheels would get me to 39lbs for each wheel/tire, but I could sell/trade my GTC01s for RPF1s and maybe even come out on top, so why shouldn't I? I would also consider PF01s (about 17lbs/wheel for 17x8") or Ultraleggeras (17.6lbs/wheel for 17x8") but I'd probably end up on the bottom side of that deal because there aren't as many sets floating around for sale it seems like.

PF01 and ultraleggers are so much cooler, though.

Re: My 2005 WRX STi - come at me, snow/dragstrip vid/coilovers pg 21
If I could come up with a set that I don't have to invest money into it's done. I don't like how the RPF1s have the extra "lip" around the inside of the barrel by the spokes, they would have to be taken off to be cleaned on the inside. They're just so light and I won't have to put any money into them, so I'm all for it in that aspect.

In other news here's a video from the decent snowfall of the year. So glad I spent $800 on Blizzaks....

I'm sure they are, winter tires are winter tires. They're all going to provide massive benefits over any other kind of tire. I wouldn't have a problem with the money I spent except that we've had almost no snow this year, where as for as long as I can remember we've been buried every winter.

i know how you feel. ive only gotten to play for like 2 hours total the entire winter.

dont get RPF1s. its same as getting rotas/volks. they look good but everyone has them.

Re: My 2005 WRX STi - come at me, snow/dragstrip vid/coilovers pg 21
So you're saying I should track the car on heavier wheels which will slow me down and put more stress on the drivetrain?

Re: My 2005 WRX STi - come at me, snow/dragstrip vid/coilovers pg 21
I have everything for my suspension build parts wise. Total cost is about 3x what I wanted to spend originally, but it's worth it. Cost of an alignment, anything that needs to be replaced that I come across as I'm installing stuff, more brake fluid to flush my brakes (ATE SuperBlue has almost 2 years and over 20K miles on it), and possibly the cost of thread repair kits for the calipers/bleeders since there's a good chance the aluminum threads are going to be jacked from galvanic corrosion because of the steel bolts.
