Better, yes... But WAAAYYY more expensive. Lol
Picked up new bushings for the rear sway, I figure it'll be a while before I get the ADDCO and I'm already gonna be back there for the end links, so might as well.
Plus I'm only $13 dollars away from a $75 off coupon from O'Reillys, that'll come in handy for something... I think.
Started stripping the interior, found some nasty shi t.
Fuzzy ass pic of rusty ass seat frame.
Nasty ass pic of torn up nasty ass driver's seat back.
And nasty ass tear in the old ass factory seat covers.
Apparently today is an ass day. Passenger seat is in much better condition, alot less rusty and dingy, and no tears in the covers. I'm thinking some adhesive spray and a few strips of 1/4 or 1/2 inch foam, with a wire wheel and some paint for the frames and I should be ok... I might bug the wife into sewing a patch onto the back of that hole just because I hate seeing it every day.
Rear seats will come out either tonight or tomorrow, haven't decided yet.
I cleaned all the rust off the frames, scrubbed down the seats with upholstery cleaner, fixed the tear in the Driver's side cover and glued some extra foam into the "wings" on either side where the factory foam had torn and the wire supports were poking through.
Then I went ahead and put them back together without taking pictures of the rest of the repairs... Derp.
But now I has no holes, no hard jab-ey in the back when I sit down, and the covers finally look clean. It's a little thing, but it's something that has bothered me for a while and now that it's actually fixed I'm quite happy.
Rear seats are tomorrow.
Damn dude. You stripped the seats all the way down?! Quite the project there. I don't think I will be going that far with my interior. But good work! Wasn't easy, I'm sure.
Really didn't take that long, actually... Once I figured out all the clasps for the covers, then it was just a matter of taking it all off.
The frames didn't need much, I got most of it with a wire wheel on the angle grinder, then the wire cup on a cordless drill to the harder to reach spots... then a small wire brush for the hardest to reach spots.
The driver's side was the worst, and it only took about 1 - 1.5 hours. Passenger side was maybe half an hour tops, then I did a quick, sh1tty spray with some random black I had on the shelf. The paint was mostly for temporary protection from any more rust that could crop up between now and the next time I strip the seats down...
I still have yet to figure out why my driver's seat is so lethargic when I try to bring the back up with the lever... it's like the spring is broken or worn out, but I swapped springs with the passenger side while they were apart and there was no change... the passenger side has no problem with clocking me upside the head pretty hard when I accidentally grab the handle. lol
Anyone else have an idea? cuz I got nothin.
I tried... they don't fit.
I think I'm just stuck with them until I can get some heated leather 6 way power front seats...and the rears too. lol
Found under the rear seat:
$3.06 in US change
€4.61 in Euro change
4 push pins
3 small packs of SweetTarts, unknown vintage
1 AA battery with the year 2012 on it
1 button, silver
1 earbud rubber cover
1 drilled out rivet, from when I did my ball joints the first time (2013)
And finally, the 10mm driver that I lost a year ago.
What new and interesting things will I find next?
What other mysteries does this car hold?
Only time will tell...
Your list reminds me of this classic scene.... "Sign here..." https://youtu.be/tYdsl-CM6qM
I once found 13 refrigerator magnets in the trunk lid hiding under the bracing.
I still don't know how they got there.
Lol, some of those things have been there for a good long while...
Oh, anyone else have trouble with the rear seat? driver's side really didn't want to come up, had to yank on it pretty hard to get the latch thingy to pop out of the hole.
And no refrigerator magnets...yet. lol
It's crazy how much foreign change ended up in it, even though it only spent a few years in Germany and most of that was on post, where they use US currency exclusively.
And I know there's more in it somewhere....I can hear it.
Are you really doing coilovers to fix your broken ass?
What strut would you use? Are you set up to switch springs, etc, impact, spring compressors and some bad words.
Buy some good mounts, get some KYBs, springs should be alright and have at it.
Maybe those Monroe jeep struts would work in that tundra until you get to the mainland.
I'm doing coilovers because with shipping to AK, it's cheaper than buying quick-struts either online + shipping, or in store with discounts. Putting together new struts would cost a little bit more. ~$700 for coilovers vs. ~$850 for new stock strut assemblies.
I want to use AGX's or Bilsteins, but I'm thinking that some super cheap SenSen or whatever will last at least 5k-10k/until I leave AK. I'm not planning on going low while I'm up here, because potholes, and I can get new struts quite a bit cheaper in the lower 48. Plus I won't feel as bad if I ruin a $40 strut as I would ruining $200 struts, and I'll have practice for the next set.
