hi fellas . just bought a 2000 GTP with 117000 miles on it. thought i was gettin a steal at $1300, but the guy who sold it to me left out a few details on what was wrong with the car. found this sight while trying to diagnose a few problems. i foolishly handed over the cash before even looking the car over . he told me all it needed was brakes, rotors , emergency brake cable (which he said was on the back seat but doesn't fit the car) and said it had a fuel line leak.

what he didn't tell me was ...
    dead battery
    abs light on
    SRS light on
    traction control off
    horn doesn't work
heater motor doesn't work any speed
    onboard display thingy doesn't work
    radio doesn't work
wipers when shut off is in strait up position instead of down
drivers side power seat motor doesn't work and is stuck all the way forward so i can't even get behind the wheel.
    transmission line leaking somewhere

body is in good shape , few scuffs scrapes and scratches here and there ,but no rust.
the engine sounds great , idles smooth, and my mechanic took me for a test drive after he put the brakes and rotors on it. he's a little fella and can fit in the seat.
problem is he said the brakes are spongy and need bled and he's not hopeful he'll get the bleeders open so i'll probably end up buying new calipers not to mention whatever abs problems arise ...please don't be wheel hub assembly..PLEEEEASE!!! ...
also not to confident that things like tyrod ends and the sway bar will pass inspection.

if any of you guys see a pattern with the electrical issues and can point me in a direction trouble shooting wise , i'm all ears . i've read online that the ignition switch is a common problem.

ignition switch is a common issue, not sure why your SRS light would be on.. Trac con being off is usually related to a broken wire on the hub... in which case the hub needs to be replaced, sounds like you need a new bower motor for the A/C unless the switch is bad... i'll let others chime in for the other stuff. If possible I suggest trying to tackle some of these issues yourself. The parts aren't that expensive and the work isn't that bad either. I hope you get it all sorted out so you can enjoy the new ride! with the age of the car problems are to be expected. it sounds like the car just needs some odds and ends tied up. I had to replace the engine after buying mine so don't feel to bad about your issues

id think ignition harness too for the dic, radio and fan all being out.

the seat unplug it, test for power. good part is :its forward" so you can take it out if you need to. two bolts in the back floor.

srs is a air bag the horn is part of the air bag, maybe the air bag is f ed up. or this is part of the ignition harness gone bad.

abs light tc light. yeah likely thats a bad hub. you own a w body now, best get used to swapping them hubs out, very common failure with them.

the wipers need the park stop re bent, no big deal, search you tube for a vid, theres a few out there how to fix that.

the battery, buy a new one. and your gonna need to get under the car and find your leaks. we dont have esp yet lol

then you'll have to jack up each wheel looking for play in the tie rods and hub. push and pull from 3 and 9 o clock on the wheel if you feel play the rods are bad, then while it in the air, grab the top of the tire, push and then pull it slowly, and firmly, if you feel play the hub is bad.

also take a look at all the hub plugs, clean grease, and see if that helps, as well as look for damaged wires to the hubs. they get torn up sometimes aross the lca where they are mounted.

thanks for the reply guys . i'm not even a backyard mechanic . my knowledge of cars is pretty basic. when it comes to electrical stuff, even worse. plus i don't have a garage and it's pretty cold outside to be messing with a car. i found the video a few days ago about bending the tab for the wipers. i passed it along to the guy working on it (not a certified mechanic). he said he got it to function properly once , then he hasn't had any luck getting it to catch the tab again. i'm thinking i can JB weld another piece of metal to it to make the tab longer and thicker to make the strike zone bigger .worth a try right ?

apparently this car has been sitting for awhile. the guy i bought it from bought it over a year ago and never titled it. said he bought it for his GF but the insurance would have been too much.
i told the guy working on it to replace the cabin filter while he had it apart. he said there was no cabin filter , and pointed to the ground at a big ball of shredded crap (mouse nest) that most likely was at one time the cabin filter. i'm thinking the meeses might have been nawing on some wires as well.
