So the same car that I posted earlier just came back up for sale on Craigslist! Looks like I lucked out after all. I asked about the transmission and the seller said "Tranny was rebuilt at 225,000. Just had all shift solenoids replaced a cpl months ago and they went through it again. Also had passenger drive axle replaced and tranny coolant lines replaced at same time." Sounds pretty good to me.

Can anyone think of anything else I should ask that could possibly be a deal breaker for this car?

Well, its a few things. Our rods get out of round easily and have to be reconditioned, and our mains have to be line honed because the block can flex.Basically its alot of machining and money vs a 500 dollar junkyard motor. Can it be done?Yeah, im over 2600 miles on mine.Is it cost effective? In most cases,no.

A lot of things can go wrong fast with a car that has that many miles on it. I had a 99 Grand Prix GTP that I kept up on all the maintenance on and it started burning oil at 200,000 miles. it wasn't a lot of oil, only about 1 quart per 3000 miles, but, that is usually the beginning of the end. I would probably stay away from a 1997 Grand Prix GTP, they are still good cars, but they have a lot more bugs than all the rest.

My favorite aspect of the supercharged 3800 cars is that they get ~30 mpg on the highway, but they also have good acceleration. they are somewhat roomy cars, and they ride nice.
