Hi all, I've had my Grand Prix for just over 2 years at this point and I've decided I want to upgrade the stock exhaust system to get a better/louder sound. I thought about doing a resonator delete but after some research found that seems to cause droning which is something I definitely want to avoid. I want something that isn't going to be too loud or expensive but definitely louder than stock. From what I've seen on YouTube the Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers sound good, anyone have experience withe these? My car is a 2006 GP GT, only mod is a cold air intake.

Most don't like Flowmasters on here, get an Aerochamber and don't touch the stock res. Should sound okay, but otherwise these motors like poop.

Unless you want RASP, DO NOT get rid of the resonator. I had 40 series flows on my 97 GT, they sounded good, but really, just chose which ever muffler sound clip you like and go with that one.

I had 40's on my last GP with the rest of the exhaust stock and I liked the sound. Wasn't very loud at all. Most ppl here like Borla.

Not sure on the similarities between the Bonneville exhaust system versus the GP's, but my 44s are barely louder than stock.

your best bet is to listen to all the different mufflers on YouTube and pick the one you like best. I had Magnaflow mufflers and a Magnaflow resonator on my last GTP and it sounded good but it was too loud with all the highway driving I had been doing. I changed the Magnaflow res to a ZZP res and it helped, but was still too loud for me. I don't plan on ever changing my exhaust again, unless I install a cutout for a no restriction exhaust.

Everyone has their own preferences so research and pick one that suits you.

The best thing you can do to your exhaust is add a little restriction thing called a turbo. It will create a glorious whistle sound under throttle and add a few horse power..it also smooths the tone and can make it louder if you use an open dump wastegate...

You wouldn't happen to have a video with the magnaflow resonator on your car would you? Was it a mellow deep sound that worked well with the magnaflow mufflers? I have a stock res but magnaflow mufflers. I'm just looking for the sound to travel.
This is where I'd put my mods, if I had any.

My GP had Flowmaster 40's and the resonator deleted. It sounds AWFUL. My advice, DP and PLOG, or Headers. Just leave the rest alone

not sure if other people will be able to watch this or not. I had a gen v, comp cams oe r lifters, 1.9 rockers and probably ported exhaust manifolds, but could have been headers.

    Flowmasters suck.

    Keep the resonator.

    Delete the cat.

Get a non-chambered muffler. Borla, Corsa, SLP, Magnaflow. The exhaust sounds awful. Anyway you slice it.
