My name is brad im 24 and i live in toledo ohio area im new to the site and i just recently purchased a 05 grand prix gxp all stock, kinda high milage (120k) but not bad. its not my first grand prix though, ive had a gtp in my recent years and absolutely loved that car till the tranny dumped. so ive decided to get another one. my gxp is the dark marron, cherryish, purplish color. not sure on the exact name of it? if any one could fill me in on that id like to know. i have alot of things with this car i am unaware of and id like to learn before i start modding it if and when i decide to do any.
    thanks
    -Brad

Welcome.....funny we were talking yesterday about no one else here with same color!!!

Any ways a couple things to do....tranny cooler asap will help save ur tranny! And depending on current condition of fluid (color and smell) a filter change and shift kit will help a lot!

Edit: what things are u unaware of?

Good read for the tranny cooler.
    http://www.grandprixforums.net/showthread.php?p=1091475

Don't have to get that exact one but the pictures will help or further down on the thread there's info on much cheaper coolers that will still do a good job

HUD there's a knob below the shifter to turn on or off and adjust brightness.
Cons...tranny and not a cheap car to mod
Pros....v8 ls motor and sound amazing especially modded

Ive tried messing with that knob and all its doing is shutting on and off the dash lights, but no display. also i hear a constant buzzing/humming noise almost like a small compressor running (which i obviously know its not) and it sounds like its coming from up around the top of the dash were its at by the windshield and it doesnt stop from the time i turn the car on and off

Well what kinda things u wanting to do to it?
If ur wanting to do a cam then i have a parts list with links as I'm ordering things for that now.

But a good place to start is ls1/2/6 intake manifold swap.

There's also a turbo kit but its expensive...like way expensive

For any transmission needs I highly recommend tripleedgeperformamce.com
Also some really good write ups over on ls1tech.com in the ls4 performance section

O the spring on ur display has broken. Its an extremely common problem. I've actually fixed 3 GXPs HUD over theast year and it really only take about an hour.

Give me a sec and I'll give you a link on how to fix it

Most likely. Probably the HUD motor when u try to change the angle of it. Or it could be the climate control thermostat that's below the ignition...I've heard some of em loud

as of right now im just going through it doing a tune up, nothing major for awhile. i might do some mods that will prevent it from having problems like the transmission for example like u were saying. and other than that im going to be replacing suspension parts soon and im just kinda interested to hear what route people are going as far as staying stock or lowering, what parts there using, how the car rides lowered etc

For a basic tune up here are my recommendations
NGK TR6IX spark plugs (1 heat range colder but much better for car)
    MSD wires
    Oil change and all
Maybe air filter if its dirty

For suspension u can check out my ride thread or 91Parkave's thread for good stuff there.

For instance he and I both have
    ZZP lower control arms
    GMPP front sway bar
    Strut tower braces
    And custom made coil overs

You can see my new coil overs in the top right area. Haven't installed em yet though

thanks for the spark plug reference, i pulled mine out and theyre definately the stock plugs theyre burnt to **** and prolly the worst plugs ive seen in a while. i will be trying the ngks out first. another thing i noticed is that the motor mounts are horrible in this car the engine jerks around alot, have u swapped mounts yet? or where would be a god place to buy some polys?
