Wow!! I have a bunch of responses to all the posts! First of all, I was married to a mechanic for 8 years so I know very well how the flat rate/book hours system works. I know that the dealers are taking short cuts because they told me. My regular mechanic looked up the recall for me & told me exactly what they were supposed to do. He also told me that he replaced his own valve cover gasket because the only dealer in our area that was actually doing it correctly moved. Therefore, I called every dealer in the triad & all the service/repair reps admitted that they're building the cheap little shield instead of replacing it, as they're getting paid to do. I was satisfied with that repair, however, if I hadn't known to ask if they did the recall as they're supposed to I would have gotten shafted!! That's all I was saying is owners beware of your warranty/recall work not being done correctly & it just made me angry because they're getting paid to do it & if your'e a good ASE tech then it never takes as long as the job calls for & that's how they make their money. It's a race against the clock & the techs are pressured to sell some work to the customer & repair the vehicle ASAP! However, this particular short cut I uncovered is the dealers policy, that's how they instruct the techs to fix it so it's not always the tech, 9 times out of 10 it's "politics". I do plan on contacting GM on all the other dealers & possibly discuss the 1 issue I had with the good dealer. There were 3 recalls on my GTP so it took them 2 different days to do it. When I picked it up after the valve cover gasket was replaced she ran like a dream!! I felt like I had a new car! However, when I went to pick her up the next time she wouldn't even start, they had to jump me off & she's been running terrible ever since that day. So I called them & told them what was going on & they SAID they would look @ her & see if somehow they messed something up. Well, of course they denied that anything was done wrong by them & I need an EGR valve!! My service engine soon light was not even on!! They did something to my baby & I'm going to find out what it is!! FYI: all vann York dealerships took the short cut!!
