Also my buddy has a Regal the same exact color as that but it is an LS model also. Funny thing is, his is faster than my cousins regal, I don't know how. They are both 98 but he has a 97 GP GT torque converter in his transmission(don't know if that matters) but he pulls my cousin the same way I do.

So they started bragging that my buddy's (red) regal was faster than mines. We took it on the highway and he seemed to keep up better than my cousins but we raced from a 20 roll since we were on the highway. I still pulled him second gear.

His excuse was his tranny was slipping but then again so was mines :P

G8, you have me there. Can I go back and qualify the statement to be best 3800 powered car? lol

That was a 97 Bonneville. I did quite a few things to it. The seats were the original 97 seats. By the time I was done some features included
    Homelink
Correctly located fog light switch (anyone that had a Bonne will understand that statement)
    Added power outlets
Trouble light in trunk that stretched around entire car
    Drag bags
    Swoopie wheels
A few extra horses under the hood (cam, heads, rockers, intake, TB, EWP, headers, IC, and the list goes on)
    Radio
    Kmh/MPH switch for hud
    Heated seats
    Gauge pod
    Tint

Kinda like the Regal I suppose.
    HUD
    Suspension
    Brakes
    Power outlets
Coming soon gauge pod in console
Heated seats (no, this one didn't have them, had the wiring) Which...means my heaters are larger than most Regals.
    Projector headlights
    Projector BMW fogs
    Aluminum Subframe
    Aluminum oil pan
    Radio
    Tint
    Homelink

I don't know why, I'm on vogtlands and GR2's. I know locals with GPs on the same setup and they think my car rides much better. IDK why.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

So is this unique to the 2005 GTP?

No, it's unique to a special SLP package.

So does your car have headers and a 3.5 pulley? I thought slp only did 97-03 gps. Maybe someone just slapped badges on the car

OK, enough of the not realistic comparisons for so many reasons that I won't even go into. Here is some reported data. I'd call them facts, but there appears to be some slight discrepancies.

From Edmunds and comparing 1999 GTP to GS. I just chose 99 because it's the year my car is.
    GTP - curb weight - 3414
GS - curb weight - 3543 GS is heavier by $130 lbs

Not sure if I totally buy that because Edmunds lists both the GT and the GTP the same weight at 3414, but has the Regal GS at 3543, and the LS at 3439
Motor Trend lists the curb weight of a GTP sedan at 3500 lbs. So IMO the data is probably not totally accurate and the GTP probably weighs about 100 more than the GT just like the GS supposedly weighs more than the LS by 104 lbs.

Motor Trend street times. This is a little harder because you can't find every exact year tested.
    1997 Buick Regal 0-60 6.6, 1/4 15.0@92.3 Buick Regal GS - Motor Trend Magazine
1997 GP GTP 0-60 6.6 1/4 15.0@92.3 '97 Ford Taurus Sho VS. '97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP - Road Test- American Car - Motor Trend Magazine

Basically what I'm saying is that you guys with your GTPs that think GM made them faster or lighter, are just wrong. Supposedly the GTP has a little firmer bushings and so forth and according to edmunds has a slightly shorter turning radius. If you want to go ahead and say the GTP is a little "sportier" than the GS, then OK. Not sure I would dispute that, but highly doubt that the difference is really significant and although you may swear by it, the butt dyno might be a little biased. Now a 300k car with an 80k swapped motor and a different driver, I could totally buy that one car is slightly faster than the other. I raced a couple GTPs stock for stock before I had done anything and I'm telling you there was no difference.

I mean, I get it. The reason us GS drivers bought and love are Regals is because of the sleeper look and that the lines are not quite as aggressive and that it's sort of a surprise. GP drivers like that little sportier look and more aggressive look more of a "look at me". Something about the aggressiveness makes it "feel" faster, but it's not reality. I had a college roommate that was exactly the same height as me, but he was reeeeeaaaaaaallly skinny(like 135 lbs skinny). I was pretty athletic and the time and weighed about 180lbs. Everyone thought I was taller than my roommate even though in reality we were the exact same height. This comparison between cars is a similar comparison, but it's just exactly the same phenomenon.

ErOk that info seems believable. I completely understand what you are saying but I wasn't comparing the GTP and the GS because from the factory they both have the same gearing. The GT and the LS have different gear ratios which is why I was comparing them. The 3.29s are gonna get off the line quicker than 3.05 or 2.93(not sure which one the LS has) and the weight difference helps the GT more because its lighter. I'm 5'9" and weight 165 lbs. My cousin is 6'1 and weighs about 185 lbs. We swapped cars and it was the same outcome. Basically what I'm trying to say is if the GTP had 3.29s from the factory and was the same weight as the GS it would win in the 1/4 and vise versa. Here's the video as proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld0AF2t3V_M&feature=youtube_gdata_player
