My daughter told me that she had heat while driving. She said she stopped for a short time and when she start driving again she had no heat. The car sat for a while when she was at work and when she drove home she had heat again. I told her she should put antifreeze in the reservoir. When she did that brown antifreeze came out from somewhere under the the reservoir. I can't see what is down under it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Should be 2 little screw caps things and 1 hose clamp on the coolant bottle, remove it and inspect from there.

Take a picture or two and we can help you further.

I haven't taken the bottle out yet, but i did jack the car up, poured water into the bottle and then got under the car to see if I could see where the water was coming from. I noticed it dripping from the bottom of the bottle possibly from the seam. I will take it out to check for sure. If that is the leak, where would be the best place to get another one or a new one?

I took the tank out and it seems to be ok, there is a overflow spout on the upper left side i may have poured to much water in it and it came out of that spout because it only leaked for a short time. The car has heat now but the temp. gauge only registers to about 180. Is that normal? So far she has only lost heat the one time.

Normal is 192 to 195 as long as it has the stock T-stat in it.

when she start driving again she had no heat.
Explain "no heat"; the fan ran and was blowing cold air or the fan wouldn't run at all.

Also, which year and model Grand Prix? Manual A/C or Auto A/C (1998-2000)?

She has dual heat, one for both driver and front passenger. The fan was working but blowing cold air, both sides. This happened just one time as, far as I know, last Sat. 2002 Grand Prix. Automatic, a/c 145,000 miles

Might be time to backflush the heatercore and bleed the cooling system.

the heat problem could also be the blend door actuators. if the the hose to the heater core are both hot, theres no air, and the core is working.

this is the how to if you need it. http://www.grandprixforums.net/blend...ent-21941.html
