Well here i am once again joining a forum because I am buying another used car... Im hoping to be picking up my GTP tomorrow. Its a 97 with 212000 on it. Saving grace is the body is straight, the interior is good still, and they are asking 800. Hoping if i put 500 cash down I can get it for that or close to it.

Now for the bad.. well it has 212000 on the clock. and it has gold rims. and its purple.... oh god, its purple... But for 500 I can afford to take it straight to Maaco and get a 600 paintjob and turn it a dark blue or black. and I will have to do something with the rims.. I thinking plastidip them black...

    Here it is,

    look like its worth 500??

What's your problem, this guy drives a purple car!

It's kinda a badass color IMO. Do the rims and save the $600. Although it seems like you have 1100 to spend.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Welcome!
Purple's nice. Lower it on those gold crosslaces and it'll look fine.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.

    Keep the purple.

Use that $600 and buy some black rims off CL and snag some lowering springs. Boom.

Keep the purple. A $500 Maccos paint job isn't going to look better than what's on there now. Compound and polish the purple and wax it and BAM! Your back in business.

Black rims? No, sir. White rims for purple cars, if one must have a color. He's already got a purple car. No point in acting ashamed of it by going with "I'm sorry about all this" black wheels.

Kablam. (Why are we all making noises?)

Welcome that car looks great. I like the car as is. Just lower it. I would save the extra cash that you will need for mechanical repair.

huh. didnt expect people to be cool with the purple. Still not sure I can live with it, but then I havent actually seen or bought the car yet. as to mechanical issues... yea with that many miles on the clock I expect a rebuild to be with in the next year... Sadly im not gonna go al out and build a beast, as this is hopefully gonna be a daily driver.

And I like the rims, but Im thinking black with the satin silver rim. I can do that easily.

    Edit: forgot my noise...

take that paint job money and put it towards a porter cable buffer. the body dont look bad at all, a good buffing will make it look like a new car.

and i vote craigslist wheels, or painting them. but those wheels look to be a pain to keep clean looking.

check the trans fluid too, ask if its ever been serviced in any way shape or form?

i got my 98 with 212 on the clock, the trans let go 5 thousand miles later. ( never slipped, just lost 3 rd gear) it had dark stinky fluid so i knew it was a matter of time. i got the car for 800 knowing it needed a lot of work.

and taking the car to a garage for a inspection can be a great bargaining tool. if it needs a lot of stuff even the owner didn't know about, its leverage for a price drop. they wanted 1800 i think for my car, i got them down to 800, first offer was 500 lol he came out with my boss says no lower then 900 i was like 800 or you can keep it lol i had a 2500 dollar list of shop price repairs to be done, lots of leverage.

well that didnt work out so well... Called the guy this mornning and double checked that he had the title free and clear... guy told me that he bought the car at an auction and hadent recieved teh title yet. So I asked how he knew the mileage was highway miles then if it wasnt his car. couldnt really answer that for me. so then I asked what all he had done to clean it up for resale. as soon as he said he had the tranny flushed I decided it definatly wasnt for me. I have had and heard nothing but horror stories about high mileage auto trannys dying after being flushed. So now Im looking into a 2002 with 112000 on it. better options, heated seats, and about half the miles. going to see it next weekend. lets see how this one turns out...

not a fan of the rims, but those can be swapped easily... I really like the twisted spoke. at least thats what I think they are called...

Guy said he just had it detailed in and out.... looks good here!

The valance where the exhaust tips are looks a little odd... is this normal? I thought it had a fake diffuser type piece that fit around the tips.

So this is my next attempt... Wish me luck with this one... regardless, come next weekend I will be buying a car of some sort. I have to replace my GMC Jimmy with a trashed tranny. Cant keep borrowing my friends car. he is coming back from an overseas detail on next friday.

ah ha. ok because I thought it looked off. so i guess I will be crawling under its ass with a flashlight a little more. gonna have to ask about that and see what the owner has to say.

what are the chances this is an SE that was top swapped and rebadged? what should i check for to ensure that isnt the case?

The VIN number will tell you. Not sure what you need to look for in it but Im sure someone on here knows as for the rims you are refering to they are called torque stars and look like this.

Except they are not black stock obviously
