Hello all.. picked up a rusty 98 GTP last night. Weird options too.. no leather, no HUD. I personally don't like Pontiac's "leather" so I was excited to find one with cloth. Kinda wish I had the HUD though.

Anyways.. on to the rust. On the drive home I stomped on the brakes to see how well the car could stop. Pedal went right to the floor . Blew out the lines that run from front to back to the rear brakes. I looked under the car before I bought it and didn't think the rust was that bad. Turns out it's a little worse than I thought. The edge of the body where the sideskirts look like they should be attached is pretty much gone. Other than that--it's not too bad. I'm going to grind away as much as I can and weld in some new metal, then seal it up.

Here's a picture in all it's glory after a sketchy drive home using the e-brake in the rain

Ran new brake lines from the master back last night.. car is driveable again. Also re-welded the left muffler exhaust hanger. Noticed it was broken when I was under the car.

When I started it back up though I have acquired a loud squeaking coming from the belts. Sounds like the belt is slipping.. but it isn't. Hoping it's just one of the idlers/tensioners. Also it appears that I'm leaking SC fluid out of the end of the pulley as well. Previous owner said he just had replaced the bearings in the snout.. I guess I will be checking out his handywork. I can tell this is going to be a fun car ;/

Going to head out to pullapart tonight and see what I can acquire.

i know.. might just get creative with some por15. nature stone garage floor does look nice, but it kind of sucks for modding. better than the 60 year old concrete that was underneath it though!

My girlfriend had a sable before the grand prix that i have now, I was driving with a friend through the small town next to where i live. I came up to a stoplight and stepped on the brakes, much to my suprise the brake lines decided that they had enough and blew. It wouldnt have been so bad but there was a school bus coming and i almost sideswiped it trying to get it stopped with the E brake. super super sketchy drivin with the e brake!!! Welcome to the forum though .
