Hey, everyone. I just picked up a 1998 GTP sedan a few days ago; it was a straight trade for a problematic '99 BMW 740iL, so I think I made out okay. Guy I traded with worked for his family's shop and received the GTP after its previous owner didn't want to fix multiple issues, so they decided to buy it and fix it up themselves. I've got receipts for quite a bit of work done to it, including a full S/C rebuild, cooling system overhaul, and plenty of various seals. The only major things that need to be done are front struts and a leaking oil pan. The car has just under 184K on the clock and seems to be pretty solid otherwise. It's my first domestic car and so far it's treating me alright.

However, I'm having a strange problem with the lights that I just can't seem to diagnose, and I'll try to explain to the best of my abilities. Whenever the lights are on the high beam indicator lights up. This happens with the DRLs, or at night when I turn the headlights on. When I flip the headlights on the fog lights automatically switch off, and the headlights are extremely dim; it's very hard to drive at night(the fogs seem to do a better job of lighting up the road to be honest). When I pull the switch to turn on the high beams the lights perform a little better but it's still pretty dismal. I've tried pulling the DRL fuse to see if there's any change in effect, but there isn't. I'm suspecting there's a pretty big problem here but I have no idea how to diagnose this; has anyone else ever encountered this? Any information would be very welcome.

And I also heard this car comes with keyless entry, but I was not given a remote for it. How would I go about getting a new one?

You can buy a factory remote off ebay, and reprogram it to the car with the owners manual.

Okay... that sounds easy enough to do. I do need to get my hands on an owners manual now, as my car didn't come with it. Makes me wonder what these people do with them, yanno? o.0

Troll this website, use the search box hidden in the black up top.

Search :key fob remote programming: or something of that nature, If I remember right, a guy on here did a write up on it if you are one without a owners manual.

Sounds like it has the wrong bulbs in it.

Awesome. Didn't see the search field up there; I blame my dying laptop LCD. :P Here it is if anyone else needs it: http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-p...fob-53653.html

I take it these need specific bulbs to handle the DRLs? I'm really new to these cars and still need to do some reading up, but my assumption at this time is that the DRL function uses a pretty low wattage to function, then a higher wattage function for standard headlights, then an extra filament for the high beams? Sorry if that doesn't make sense; I'm a geek sort and I tend to like to know how these things operate.

Check for a loose ground around the headlight area, wonder if the switch could be bad too.
