Yea, Im the new guy. I have a 2000 Grand prix GT, maroon 2dr. Its all stock. Mine came with a sunroof and Dual climate control. Thats about all of the spiffy extra's. This is my second GT. The first being a 99 that had tranny problems I didnt want to deal with. I really enjoy the GP's, They fit me very well.

My only plan might be to put a small stereo in the car. I found some rust on the rear strut towers that are pretty much keeping me from doing anything serious to the car. Chances are this will be the last american made car I will buy.

My purpose here is to browse mostly. Ask a few questions here and there. A lot of you guys have nice cars. If my car didnt have rust I might be right there with you.

    Thanks for looking.

    Welcome to the community.

Post up pics of the rust, perhaps there is someone here that can give you some pointers on how to deal with it.

welcome, from the sounds of it you have some surface rust, which is fairly common, and not a major concern, post pics, and we can see (also note that any metal car will do that, and from my experience the asian ones do it worse)

Ill try and get some pics up later...there are two spots on either side and its a little more then surface rust. Its almost chewed through the first layer on one side. There is also a spot up on one of the strut mounting bolts. Pics for that will have to probably wait til I get the new 6x9s in. And Its gonna be hot as hell here the next couple days.

here are the pictures of the rust. I will probably keep the car for at least another 5 years or so. It mostly depends on the car if the rust starts getting real bad I will have to get rid of it sooner

These are from the right side strut mount area on top

This is from the right side strut tower Its through the first layer

The left side isnt so bad, there is about the same amount of rust on top and here is the side.

Irony here is that there isnt a speck of rust anywhere else on the car. Oh well.

I'd get in there with a grinder and get all the top rust off and seal the bare metal. that looks very light!!!!!

the grand caravans like to rust around the front strut towers....I saw one that ended up breaking all the way through.

looks like you can save it!!!

edit: they do make rust inhibiting primer and paint........

There is no good way to get to the rust on the top, and its a lot worse then the pics show. I just couldnt get a good angle on it cause the rear deck was in the way. Im not too worried about it. like I said I will probably be getting rid of the car in a few years anyway.
