So yesterday i got up at 7 and waited all day for the lady to call me so we could go over and look at the car. She ended up calling me right befor i had to go into work and told me she had already done it witch really pissed me of because i had the keys, she then tells me that she has rated the car at more then 80% dameged of its tottel worth. This is just by looking at it she told me she cant get the hood open so she didnt know how bad it was but with her years of doing this she just knows hahaha. i tryed telling her that it ran and drove fine after the deer and didnt leak anything but she just told me that that didnt matter its a tottel loss. So now they are going to come up with what they think the worth of the car was befor the crash and pay that to the lean holder my bank and take the car from me. Im new to all this and I really think im getting ****ed i want a body shop to look at it to see if its really that bad and the only way ill let them take the car from me is if they pay all of my loan off all 3 grand cuz if they dont im going to be paying for a car i dont have.

Let them total it out and then buy it back from the insurance company for next to nothing and fix it yourself... I could go get all the parts needed from pullapart for a couple hundred bucks and then have it painted.

    Doesn't work that way.

OP, when they give you their value, you don't have to accept it right away. Your best thing to do right now is to shop for a similar mileage, same year GP and get an idea of what it would cost for you to replace the car. Go from there with negotiations. With you being a new customer, more than likely they'll try to lowball you. When they give you their offer, also ask them to check on how much it would be to buy it back from them. If you go with that they just deduct that from your payout. Don't get your hopes up though. My insurance still wanted over 3,000 for mine and that thing had a effed up motor, tranny, and radiator.

You can legally tell them they have to find you a similar car and buy it instead of having them pay off ur loan. That way you get a car, and fair value. It doesnt matter if there isnt one within 500 miles, if you say find me a car that is similar they have to.

That's exactly how it works. I went through this same thing about a year ago. I got rear ended and they totalled the car. I fought with them over the value of the car and got them to come up about $1500 on their offer. I asked about buying the car back and they told me it was $100. I kept the car and they settled for $100 less. I had to get a salvage title on the car since it had been totalled. I sold it to a guy I work with and he fixed it then sold it for a profit. He had to have the state inspect it after it was repaired to make sure it was road worthy again.

dont feel bad man, i hit one two weeks ago going 65mph on a country road on my way to work. fortunately it was only minor damage. i was blessed to have clipped its legs (left a small ding in the right front side of the hood) and that flipped it into my windshield. All i had to do was get a new windshield (180 bucks). man u talk about a blessing. I suggest you invest 6 bucks on some deer horns like i did. they actually work, i normaly keep a set on all my cars, i got caught slippin lol. i got 4 on my car now lol and you canT even tell they are there! glad your ok and welcome, this is a cool site i havent been here long, and i think im a odd ball, cause seems like most ppl here are in the midwest, while im in the south... HAVE FUN

Like I said, they wanted over 3k to buy mine back. Not the slightest bit of room for profit there in my case.

Forget the car, be thankful that you're alive, man! Something much, much worse could have happened than just totaling your car. Be thankful that you made it out in one piece. As for the car...

Yep... just like that. I've seen it several times but never acutally went through it. Most recently my buddies cavalier... I forget the year but its like the last year they made them and its a z24 ecotec nice little car with less than 60k on it and it got hit by hail. Book value was supposed to like 6-7k somehow(seems high for any cavy to me) but he talked to them about buying it back and bought it back for like 1200 and cut him a check for almost 5k and the few dents that were actually noticeable he had popped out at like $50 a dent paint less style and the car looks good as ever. And alot of other friends that have had the same thing happen I always make sure to tell them to ask what the buyback is and tell them to let me know if they aren't interested and I may buy it... and have gotten two cars like that one I repaired the other I parted and made at least double my money both times.

Well they told me the car is worth $3,238 but my deductible is $500 witch leaves me with $2,738 and to buy it back its $700. So after all that it would pay $2,038 of my loan off witch is $3500, I would still have the car but no money to fix it. So i called them and left a voicemail telling them that i didnt think the numbers were right and he called me back today when i was at work and just wanted me to call him back, so tomorrow I plan on it im hope'in to get more for it, Im shore its worth more then what they told me it is.

Do you have to for some reason put all that money into paying the loan down? I would buy it back, fix it on the cheap and then apply what was left to the loan. If you can't get it back to mint or a cheaper version of fixed your happy with for 2k and still have money left over there's something wrong.
