I have 1998 Camaro SS that I wanna sell and buy a 2007/8 GXP. All the questions are for a GXP. Wanna know how happy are you with yours?? Who's the aftermarket?? Would like more info on the drive train e.g. engine bolt-ons, best exhaust, suspension upgrades, etc. Did all GXPs come with tap shift?? How do I know a true GXP from a non GXP besides the fenders?? Is there a write up for info on the GXPs?? Please throw in anything else that is good to know. Thanks.

gxp are v8's theres a bunch of em here. and a whos got one thread. most delete the dod there are headers but they dont just bolt on, cat back is up o your ears. cam, intake swap and heads are all stuff guys do to them.

issue is the tranny dont like the stock hp. so plan on a buying a 3 grand plus built tranny if your modding it. its fwd too in case you missed that part.

Thanks for the reply. Ya, I know it's FWD. But a G8 or Chevy SS is still going for too much right now. I'm sure I can live with a FWD V8. I don't plan on doing big power upgrades. Just better intake and exhaust flow. But definitely a suspension upgrade if possible. I hope the transmission can handle some bolt on upgrades at least. So where's the who's- got-one thread??

I'm sure alot better though than a Camaro. And with 4 doors it'll make getting in and out easier for the kids.

Gotta correct you on this one Scotty. Seats in the Gp are a thousand times more comfortable than my camaro. Plus being able to actually get something in the backseat is a plus.

There still isn't much room. I had 4 people in my car before, but it was not comfortable. I had to move up closer to the steering wheel than was comfortable for my legs, back, etc.

only difference is a w bodys back seat is maybe 4 inches deeper. leg room is non existing in both cars.

Kids don't usually complain about leg room.* Ease of entry/exit are the biggest factors with kids.

    Edit:
and even if they do complain, we (parents) don't care.

ive had 4 adults in my car. eating the steering wheel is no fun. no way id take a trip like that. i look at it like a 2 seater with a shelf for storage in the rear with doors for easy access.

One more question why not turbo your v6 if looking for more power? I love gxp look beautiful but um that trans is sh!t and break easy it's same trans behind the v6 and v6 guys can beat the crap out of them break them pretty easy. Imagine another 100hp and lot more torque. Want power stick to rwd for reliability. My personal opinion. That's why I won't mod the gp any further cause then I have dump money in my trans

I'd keep the SS if possible. If not save for a G8 or find a GTP as a driver. The LS1 / t56 combo will handle some serious abuse and can be made fast cheap. Your going to shatter the GXP trans with extra power.

I only put like 800 miles on my z/28 a year but would never sell it.

I have both. 02 Z28 and my 07 GXP. The back seat is light years difference. Unless you are incredibly tall or feel the need to put the front seat all the way back, the GXP back seat has ample room. If you were to put the Camaro seats back the same amount, there isn't room for even a small childs legs to fit without being crushed. Is the GXP back seat comfortable and room like a cadillac? No, but I have had several people comment it is more comfortable than their car's back seat.

There are areas where the Camaro is better than the GXP. Interior room, amenities, and comfort is certainly not one of them.

To the OP. There are mods out there, but not as plentiful as the Camaro. The biggest weak point is the trans. Expect to need a TEP trans at some point. If you can find an otherwise solid GXP with trans issues for cheap, that could be the best route. You can take the savings and get a TEP trans right off the bat. It's a bit like Camaro 10 bolt rear ends except maybe even more common. I would compare to the Camaro trans, but 4L60's in the Fbodies seem to hold up fine unless abused or significant power is added. GXP trans don't need power added or much abuse to come apart.

Not sure your budget so I can't really make recommendations otherwise.

Scotty is tall. I on the other hand am not tall, (5'9") but the only way for me to be comfortable driving is with the seat all the way back. For front seat adult passengers to sit comfortable the seats generally need to be all the way back making the back seats pretty pathetic for a 4 door.
