yes you can absolutely drive without the abs module.
however i don't see how the abs module would cause your pulsing..

Each hub has a set of twisted wires going from the ebcm to the hubs. I have fixed several vehicles at work that have had bad wiring, usually after someone has changed a few hubs they realize it's gotta be something else.

I'm not sure what the 5 rule thing is, but there are several compatible years that you can use to replace your abs module. another option is to get the electronic portion rebuilt, its like 160 and www.modulemaster.com out of moscow idaho does it. you just have to make sure your module is what is causing the problem because modulemaster cant test the module before or after.
Cheapabs.com is also another option

bought a used unit from ebay because mine wouldn't communicate with a scan tool. the used one i bought was supposedly from a 2000 gtp which is what i have. the numbers were different than the new used one. i couldn't find the #88894774 on mine or the one i bought , .. installed the new, used one ...still got abs , traction control and ses lights on. haven't tried scanning it yet.
There's a guy on eBay they rebuilds them for $40-50 might be worth just having your checked out and repaired and get your money back for the other one you brought.

it's too late for a return. only got 30 days and i took too long to get it installed to determine it didn't help. just realized i didn't unhook the battery during removal / installation... don't know if that could have affected it...someone suggested a fuse or relay. looking in the owners manual , all i see abs related is a 10 amp fuse marked ac clutch, abs ingnition. the ac doesn't work , could this fuse being blown stop a scan tool from communicating with the ebcm ? also i seen ground wire as a possible culprit. anyone know where the ground is ?
good news. went and had a scan redone (with the same snap on) and it did communicate this time.PROGRESS !!!
now it's throwing the c0035 code , which from what i gather is the left front wheel speed sensor. i've already replaced both front hub assemblies with timkens , so now HOPEFULLY a new wire harness will solve the problem . i'm replacing both just for good measure.
well i replaced the left front harness because it was throwing the c0035 code. started car abs/tc lights still on. rescanned and it gave the c0040 code ...right front...replaced right harness and now i have no abs lights and the TC works as it should ...YAY..![]()
Are there any threads out there that discusses DIY repair?
The EBCM
I replaced my ebcm few months ago no lights everything works as should. I replaced the power steering pump with one from O'Reilly 3 times while the ebcm was bad and the rack also.. now street the ebcm I have no lights but power steering is stiff and noisy at low speeds under 20mph, could the ebcm messed with the pump or should I try another pump??

I have an 04, so I can just try pulling a EBCM from any 99+ as long as there's no 5 in the serial number, or can I only pull 04+? I will check my EBCM number tomorrow, and I could take pictures if anyone needs a guide made.
I have C0050, C0095, already replaced my hub and wiring.
Link says all 98-07. That's where I had mine repaired. Matt fixed it and got it back to me right away.
