Exactly, I've been on this site since '10, I know what goes down. I'm too old to battle via Internet. I'm here to get help and help and maybe make a few acquaintances

If you knew me and read my posts youd see that I do help people on here all the time. It just cracks me up how people try to save a couple bucks with home made intakes and they fall off. Having the intake loose isn't good having unfiltered air getting into the motor. So in a way I am helping you.

I hear what ur saying, ur delivery sucked. And yes I know I could buy one. Seemed way easier to make one for $30, vs buying one for $100 and made from virtually the same materials. There are plenty that have made them and had no issues. I'm not knocking them at all. Mine, just won't stay on, I could glue it on but don't want to. Its not a big deal, I came, I saw, I conquered. On to the next project. It was for looks anyway, hell, I have a GT not a GTP, so it was minimal power gain.

I've got a GT and I'm leaving mine the stock box for now. For some more noise, I did remove the "baffle" or tube that helps muffle sound.

    You turn this:

    Into this:

This is what gets cut out.

It may help air flow a little bit since the air gets spread more evenly over the filter. If you ever changed a filter on it before, you'll notice a darker circle right in the middle of the filter.

You gutted the box to gain nothing.

You're supposed to cut the entire face of the box out. Now you lost the tunneling effect the factory box once had.

Tunneling effect? You sound like a believer of these things. Besides, completely gutting it gets rid of that crazy idea anyway.

I'm not looking for gains, it's a GT. I just wanted more noise. I'll probably gut it more eventually.

I don't believe in that crap like that because all it does is cause a restriction.

Basically, if it did ANYTHING, you dropped the weight of the box by an ounce...and sorry if you took the tunneling comment the way you did...I really meant just a want to direct the air towards the air filter...not spinning it or something to create some extra velocity.

I can't see if this link works from my work computer, but this is what I was getting at by gutting it: ClubGP:

If you want more noise just bolt a filter onto the end of the throttle body and be done.

Yeah I can see the link. That's a FWI mod, I was trying to keep the air coming from the very front of the vehicle still. Both have cold air, but I prefer the front because FWI's tend to get a bit more dust. Removing the tube was just because I've seen many other air boxes that don't have that. I didn't see a point, air shouldn't really need to be directed until it goes into the intake tubing(The one that has the IAT sensor). Just from googling it, this kinda matches what I want, and what I was going for:
    http://www.grandprixforums.net/gutte...ures-1103.html

I'm trying to keep it a stock look, or in the off chance I do go with a cone filter I want it to look pretty presentable.

My custom intake has been on for about a year now and the only thing it requires is a little tightening of the hose clamps every now and then.

lol. Well anyway I don't know if I want to bring that post back from the dead, so I'll ask here. Why does he leave that one piece of plastic sticking up in the airbox?

Edit: After gutting mine I know why. The PCM rests on that tab.

Here's my simple intake. Yeah I know, it sucks in hot air from the motor. But for now, I don't care. lol It sounds better than the stock intake and makes the engine bay a little more presentable. I got a 3" rubber coupling, 3"-45 degree pvc "street pipe" and a 4" cone K&N filter. The street pipe, on one end, is "flared" to a 3" ID and almost 4" OD so the 4" K&N fit perfectly on there. The other end of the pipe is a 3" OD. Painted the PVC w/ gloss black. Popped a 1/2" hole in the pipe for the sensor. Used a rubber grommet as well as some silicone adhesive for a good seal around the sensor. Can't get much easier than that! When it gets warmer I'll be doing a fender well intake but this will do for now. I used the old zip tie method for the PCM but I will be going to the yard this weekend to get a Blazer tray to mount the PCM to.

Or you could make a simple one like this...

    .

Works great, and pop out the headlight at the track and its a funnel for the intake...we'll see if it makes a difference here in a few weeks when Friday Night Thunder starts back up at Farmington....
