As I was driving at 12 am today, I pulled into a McDonalds and when I was under the street lights my automatic lights (drl, dash lights, heating and ac) all turned off and would not turn back on. When I opened my door to get out the car made the chiming noise like my lights were left on. Does anyone know why or what caused this? Also, my horn went off by itself earlier in the day if that may have any ties. Any help much appreciated!

I would almost say have your clock spring examined; but headlamps are not connected through the clock spring... however, they are connected to the body control module (BCM), and those have a nasty habit of not only going bad but making your car go haywire in the process! If you start to have other bizarre misbehaviour from your car, the BCM is where I'd go! But make sure it's the culprit before throwing down a couple hundred dollars (parts alone!) for a new module...

I have a coworker whose '02 Grand Am fried its BCM and left her stranded. She had to have it towed; if you have no choice but to drive it until you get it fixed, then try to nurse it along. Otherwise wait until you can get it looked at/fixed...

Update - Today I also realized that my tail lights are not going on either. Brake lights work fine, just not the tail lights. I took a look at the fuses and replaced the 10a for DRL to see if that would help, but it did not. Does this Still sound like a BCM issue?

I'm not much on electrical diagnosis but just don't forget checking basics like bulbs and grounds.

Things I would check first are tail light bulbs and connectors at the DRL module and headlight switch. Maybe someone previously unplugged the DRLs and didn't get it plugged back in good. The horn blowing by itself is wild though. I would probably also check connections to the steering column. For like the combo and ignition switches, horn. Wonder if an animal has attacked your harness somewhere, or if moisture is getting somewhere it isn't supposed to behind the dash. Look your harnesses over real good for physical damage and wetness.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
