it sure can. the ground is not tight. hit a bump, the car looses power and stalls, or wont fire up.

Just wanted to update, replaced the battery bolts and cleaned off the terminals. drove it around for about 20 mins and hasnt died yet. hoping it's fixed

Thanks a ton for all of your help, you guys are awesome

UPDATE; Died again Someone also told me to check a security box of some kind thats behind the dash, does that sound like somthing thatd cause it? he said it might be loose

Another bit of info i ran across is that it could be the ignition switch causing the stalls and loss of power to dash?

you check the ground wires yet? if not look at them.

you would be talking about the ignition harness. anything else acting up, heater fan speed, head lights, cluster lights flashing on and off?

Nothing else is acting up from what i've noticed so far. Other electronics seem fine, car still drives like normal. checked the grounds that i could find but have been trying to find manuals or somthing showing what wires i should look for with not much luck

follow the neg battery cable, that leads to your main grounds on the trans bell housing, with two other much thinner wires.

driver side of the engine, on the trans where it meets the engine is a bolt with a stud and 3 wires to it. look where the exhause cross over pipe starts.

ground cable leaves the battery runs across the rad support under the rad to the ground, pos cable takes the same path to the starter.

if you can find the starter, the ground it right next to it. as seen in the diagram i posted.

I found those wires, they seem tight with no corrosion. i couldnt quite take them off to clean them though i lack the tools for it right now.

Are there other grounds i should check? i heard there are some inside the car and in the trunk. Also to clarify if the dash goes off but stereo and other stuff stays on when it dies can it still be a ground?

The stereo staying on piqued my interest... I'm wondering if it's ignition switch related. Like, you know how, when you shut the car off the radio stays on until you open a door. What you're describing sounds like, you're just driving along, and someone turns the key off. (Without the steering wheel locking of course.)

I'm no guru like some of these guys. Just throwing that out there. Is that a possibility?

I thought that could be somthing to look at as well because while researching the issue i found a bad ignition switch had the same symptoms (dash turning off when car stalls). And with a bad ground i would assume that the radio an other things would at least flicker off but they don't :s

Any signs of a remote start or alarm installation/removal? Maybe there's a bad connection somewhere under the dash. Sorry if you already mentioned that. I read the whole thread but don't remember you saying anything about that.

    So, somebody's been in there...

Like I said, I'm no expert, and I could be way off. But with nothing else to go on, I would at least inspect all the wiring under that hush panel for cuts and splices. It's not going to cost you anything but some time.
