    Ok,

So my budget is extremely limited and I can't really replace a bunch of things to try to figure out what a root cause is. So here are the issues I am currently seeing with "big red"

PS steering fluid just dumping from tank area - I know the pump is the cause and place to replace. But recently got a loud screaming noise at idle in gear and also around 1800rpm, its not your typical PS whine but more of a howling noise, just wondering if that is a typical noise of dying pulley bearings. Its hard to pinpoint where it is coming from because the RPMs in neutral cause the noise to dissappear.

Transmission hating 4th gear. Just slips like crazy and if going up an incline at about 50mph and give it about 3/4 throttle will just switch from 4 to 3 and back over and over really fast. I guess i'm going to lose 4th soon, or my torque converter is dying, or my 4th clutch pack is dead. Still need to do a pan drop to see how much of my trans is in the pan.

Loud clunk on accel and deccel in mid to bad of car, not really sure what this is, sounds like something is loose on the frame and its sliding when torque is applied to front from breaking or back from accel.

Any ideas on what/how to check to help save me some uneeded spending

I would drop the plan and drain the fluid and install a new filter and shift kit and see what Improvements you get. Any codes?

just checked trans fluid and level is good, but stinks, so i'm assuming its burnt to hell. Other note, oil is about a quart low and I believe that my oil pressure sensor is leaking pretty good, which in turn is dumping oil on my axle and slinging it everywhere, making it hard to pinpoint any leaks on the passenger side

Simple green and a pressure washer or water hose. Time to get the Cleaning. Also change that fluid asap. Also might want to get a new oil sensor too.

Luckily these cars are cheap to maintain so it won't break the bank

Yeah I'm excited about that, gotta fix what I can this weekend. I've heard of plugging the oil sensor hole with just a bolt...

I wouldn't trust a bolt. One sudden move and the bolt Flys out and your in broken pistonville. Oil sensor is like 12 bucks.

the threads ntb or some crap, means they are tapered. it not coming out. mines been in there for like 4 years now easy. i dont even look at it for leaks no more.

if you do plug it, dont drive it in deep, stop when its snug or the oil filter housing will crack. same goes for a new oil pressure sensor.

Hmmm guess that would be a good time for an oil change then huh... Given the location I imagine it will dump a good amount/all the oil as soon as I pull the plug

not much comes out, but be ready for it, some will come run out.

not oil change land, unless your due for one. then get it all done at once.

wanna flush coolant too, not sure if dex is in there or not but wouldn't hurt

car needs a refresh and i can begin a timeframe of whats been done.
    full syn oil
    new trans fluid +shift kit
    nice clean new green coolant

my rear valve cover is AWEFUL, it has a leak and combined with LIM its like a toxic waste dump back there

pretty sure this car has NOT be maintained at all for its entire 165k miles

So if i can get it back up and running like a champ, i'm going to be proud of myself :P

This is the first car since i was 17 that hasn't been under 2 years old

I have also noticed some coupler rattle going on. Would this cause a whine at higher RPMs (around 800 idle and 1800 is most noticable). Sounds like a bearing whine if that makes sense...that medium pitch rattley whine. I can't pinpoint it though, can only hear it while directly above the belt. If i am over SC can't hear it, if i'm down by the pullies, cant hear it. but its def coming from passenger side. Mght just put full coverage on it and torch the car lol, blame it on the rear valve cover

not the coupler. it just rattles at idle.

take the sc belt off, start the engine, if the whine is still there take the other belt off, run the engine for a minute or so, no noise any more? its one of the pulleys.

while both belts are off inspect all pulleys, they should spin smoothly, and feel smooth when turned.

water pump pulley, two hands, push and pull form each side see if it moves, if it moves its dead or close to it.

a/c compressor, spin the outer ring, make sure its smooth sounding. not a metal on metal grinding sound or feel.
