Phone apps aren't very spot on for many things.

There are applications that allow you to scan via your PC Bluetooth; however, they usally cost money. Scan XL For example (which I think allows Bluetooth runs around 89 iirc) If you just want general information use the app listed above.
Or if you feel like it and know how to program write you own application! :P Its just serial bluetooth ports and reading some data coming in!

since im not really modded, i would just use it to monitor things(mostly Kr) and see where its at. but when i start getting serious into modding i will buy an aeroforce.

I paid $15 for my 327 ELM BT adapter, $5 for the Torque app, The Torque app has worked for me very well, yet it would be nicer to have mechanical gauges.

Here is what I monitor with my Torque App

The Bluetooth/Torque app is the cheapest way to "ACURATELY" monitor what your engine is doing in absence of separate physical gauges. The better BT adapters can monitor at a faster RATE, which may allow for the monitoring of MORE items. The AEROFORCE and cheap BT adapters BOTH read the PCM through the OBDII connection so are REPORTING the SAME information!

I don't get how people bash the BT adapter/app (Torque Pro) route when it is the same exact thing?
I don't vouch for any other app...

I have done a run with my HPT monitoring and recording and then removed it and did the same run with BT/Torque and it was the same. The trick is to not load the app with too many items to monitor, but three pages loaded with all the pertinent gauges and recording was fine. If you load too many all it will do is SLOW down the data flow, not CHANGE IT.

I have been using torque pro since it was first out and it is probably one of the best written apps hands down!

its funny you picture the two items together... I'm going to try and see if I can fashion a way to mount my old phone in place of the DIC to be able to show torque pro gauges, etc. lol... But that'll be in the Spring (project). : )

In the picture I posted, those gauges are the only thing I have running on the App, it's very accurate.

The iPhone suffers from a terrible Bluetooth design. As such, most of the apps that I've seen are paired with a device that was built to work with the iPhone. This is the only one that I've heard of:
    http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16367

It's more common for an Apple user to go buy a cheap Android phone/tablet from from Craigslist or ebay and buy the $5 Torque app. The Apple options that work are pretty expensive.

Will a wifi adapter work with the torque app? That's what I got for my iPhone and it doesn't really work
