I define "finer control" as being able to adjust fueling based on MAP. the main file here is the VE. not all bin files use VE as multiplier. On my 96 DOHC the factory file used VE when calculating fueling in PE.
I highly doubt this. No GM PCM I have ever found uses VE in power enrich over the MAF. It may be a creepy 96 thing, but unless you can explain to me the hysteresis between those 2 tables I again do not believe you.

Most 98+ files i have seen VE is not always active or even enabled as a back up for MAF failure. In tiny tuner you can activate it and use its values to be incorporated into fueling. I found this to be very useful when tweaking AF with a wide band installed. also if you do a proper VE tune, you can have a fail safe tune if your MAF sensor dies.
Tinytuner allows you to switch between AlphaN maf failure and VE maf failure modes, it does NOT enable "magic VE all the time mode" that people think it does. I have tested this extensively via an all 0 VE table in mulitple different OSID's.

As far as a "proper fail safe" goes... Unless you have a stupid setup like mine making over 800hp, then you are going to be able to get your car home on a stock VE every time, with decent MPG and minimal stalling.

As far as your map sensor deal goes... Congrats I guess. Doesnt seem to make sense to me as the code behind a L36 vs L67 map sensor is WAY WAY different... I tried to enable a 3bar for logging reasons.
