I have a 2006 Grand Prix base and it won't switch off defrost. I know defrost is the default when something breaks and something must have broke. This does not have the automatic climate control and does not have dual climate control. I dug down to the actuator, which seems to work fine, then turned whatever the actuator turns with a screw driver and nothing changed, just stayed on defrost. Is there a common problem on these cars, what part am I looking at that isn't working, I think I might be able to find out more information if I just knew the terminology.

I'm not positive on your car, although I believe around 03 GM changed over to an actuator for the positioning as well as the blend doors. There may be another actuator up in further that you aren't seeing.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

When I go through all the selections on the climate control, the actuator turns. So I'm thinking what ever mechanism the actuator turns must be broke.

this is how you open up the dash to get to the actuators. http://www.grandprixforums.net/showt...door+actuators

in this pic from that post, the round part bottom right, the rod off the top moves the linkage to move the air flow. ( defrost, vent, floor) car running, work the controls and watch the linkage bar, it should move up and down. the linkage is all plastic and can and does break on its own from time to time. theres one of these round parts on both sides of the dash. you need to check them both.

Thank you, I will probably get around to it this weekend. No time now, too much work.
