Not sure what kind of noise this is. It's coming from the front end, near the valve cover/exhaust manifold

    Exhaust leak?

    Loud pulleys?

Kinda hard to tell if anything is wrong.

This does have SD headers, so idk if its just the brand, or a leak. or noise coming from the valvetrain

I'd pull the valve covers and inspect.

Well, i guess i can live with it now. Ill be pulling the engine for the cam, so might as well check then and replace the gaskets and all the valve train parts.

the thing is, the rattling goes away after a second or two. like at cruise its gone, then you get on it from cruise and no noise. But when you let off the pedal/gas then rev it/give it gas it comes back real quick then goes away. I think it's exhaust related on that note.

Go check and see if either of your belt tensioners are shot.

Sounds like the S/C tensioner smacking around. (Just replaced mine about 2 weeks ago, same noise)

Should be able to visually see the tensioner moving to lock

when i put my ear around the front manifold by the spark plug and move around it seems to be pinpointing from that location.

I know my laptop speakers suck, but that sounds mechanical not exhaust related!!! Like Seachicken said, pulling valve covers are free. You can check for loose rockers, gaps in pushrods to rocker arms, broken valve spring, broken guide (or whatever the piece is the rockers sit on), messed up lock ect... How does the car run when the sound happens as you drive? Any miss, sputter, or still smooth running?

But I guess dropping an exhaust valve could be exhaust related...

just wondering, but if it was valve train related, wouldnt you hear it all the time? and not just the first few seconds of giving it gas then the sound goes away?

^ If he dropped an exhaust valve, there would be a much more profound noise, and severe lack of compression.

So is the car Supercharged or no? If so, pop the SC belt off, rev and see if the noise goes away.

If its not supercharged, check the serpentine belt tensioner. Easiest things first. If not, listen to the valve cover.

Not if a lifter is going dead..

I've also seen broken springs make sounds like that. The spring will get in a bind and go quiet, then break free to rattle, shift and sieze again. Guy at work had a Dodge Van that did it.

Could be a binding/cracked valve spring. Doubt it though.

hmmm....i guess its starting to sound like a valve train problem. I guess ill have to replace everything when the time comes. Can't really be positive as of now tho. But I'm 99% positive is the the SC or or the belt tensioner

    ^^^ someone didn't see the sarcasm.. :-/

I said it sounds mechanical, not exhaust related. Tensioner is a mechanical sound to.. SC tensioner is under the ICM, puts it at the front valve cover. Very plausable. I'm just leaning toward valvetrain based on his description of the location..

At first i thought it was the spark plug cover rattling against the header, but there's no metal to metal contact.

JD, is the car sitting outside at the moment?

If you have a flashlight and a key, you can start the car, and watch the tensioners while you rev the engine. This takes roughly 34 seconds. (I replaced both tensioners, and put new belts on in a parking lot in under 5minutes, so I know you can)
