Ok, a few weeks ago my car started misfiring at random times. If it doesnt misfire it runs smooth and excellent, but if.and when it misfires it runs very rough when stopped. this happens randomly. the code that comes up for CEL is for misfire in 3rd cylinder. I.have changed wires and plugs, and coil pack and ita still happening. what else could it be? If its any help my thermostat is acting up, stays low and sometimes rises then lowers, heat sometimes works.and.sometimes doesn't. Any ideas?

I would change your tstat then do a coolant flush, check for vacuum leaks.

Well the thermostat takes a whopping 5 minuites to change so get that changed now. As far as the missfire goes it could be injector or ignition modual. I wouldent say a mechanical issue if it does run good sometimes. Have you confirmed its actually #3 missfiring?

well I changed all wires, plugs for all cylinders and coils for the 3-6 plugs. As far as the thermostat, im going to do that asap but it looks quite challenging (for me), I think I have to remove throttle body so I might.have to bring.in to be done. I should have mentioned before that this is an 03 grand prix with the 3.1. Like you said, it throws me off because when it doesnt misfire, good running is not the word, its amazing. When it does misfire it shakes pretty bad when stopped at a light or somthing but when driving its fine. This happens very random, I can be driving and then check engine blinks and it starts running bad, sometimes it can happen as soon as I start. Their are times it wont happen at all for a week or more.

So next should be the thermostat, then replace injectors? or get some cleaner? thanks for everything so far
