    Hello Everyone!

Got another issue with my 2004 Grand Prix GT2......300k Highway Miles runs like a dream, until recently.

I will be driving down the road and it could take anywhere between 5 minutes and 10 minutes but the car will just shut off. The first time it wanted to shut off I kind of prevented it from shutting off by giving it a little gas but now It wont stall or "choke", it just seems like power is gone. No certain speed at all, just driving normally and it will just shut off. I will restart it and go on my way but will shut off after a few minutes, its a repetitive cycle. Can anyone help me on this??? It has happen 4 times already twice tonight and twice yesterday, its pretty dangerous especially when not wanted it to happen at high speeds.

I have looked into it on different forums and I have read it could be : Fuel Pump/ Crankshaft Position Sensor/ MAF Sensor/ Dirty Throttle Body.....the list goes on and on.

Recent Work that I have done most likely have nothing to do with this problem : Water Pump Replacement/ New Battery/ Coolant Flush and Fill and a new thermostat. When doing the water pump I did remove the big fuse box that is under the hood to get out of my way, but made sure I put it back together when done. All the work was done 3 weeks ago, but this problem just happened.

If someone can help me eliminate some of the listed "Fixes" without buying the parts just yet I would greatly be thankful!

    Thanks Guys

    Paul

With that mileage, I suggest a basic tune-up.

    Like...everything.

    Alternator dying?

    Possibility.

Clean the TB and MAF, pretty simple, basically cheapest thing you can do.

Test the pressure at the rail for the pump...I think these cars sit around 45~psi...if it starts to bleed off, then that ain't good.

    Try that.

Does your tach quit working right before it stalls? Sounds like the infamous Crank position sensor. And it rarely throws a SES light or code. Mine finally did after a month of doing that crap. That was back in 2001, before all these forums, so it was fun to track down the problem.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

Keith, thanks for the response!...I will drive it around the subdivision tomorrow and play close attention to the tach, if the tach drops down to zero before the stall, should i just go ahead and replace the Crack Pos Sensor?

Drove the dang car around for an hour today....couldn't get it to shut off.

I have my TB and MAF sensor cleaner ready. I also have my fuel pump pressure gauge ready and went out and purchased a CSP sensor from AutoZone (Duralast) on hand.....They also let me borrow the puller.

I will keep all the Pontiac guys out there updated as soon as I figure it out....

It's your Crank sensor. I remember when mine did that....I'd drive 10 minutes and boom, Im throwing it in neutral trying to restart it while rolling. Throw a mechanic in the passenger seat and try to replicate, runs great. Those sensors have a sixth sense, I swear to god.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.
