Headers - pound for pound and dollar for dollar are the best investment you can make for this vehicle.

    Just my $.02
Because its for his wife and there's no sense in wasting that kind of money(additional modifications to make it work) and time on the cheap ****ty headers with huge ass primary's that are not needed on the majority of 3800 S/C setups. Bigger is not always better but most of you guys believe that. It's rather humorous actually. And headers are not the best investment, a trans is :P because it will eventually go out. Then most will demonstrate Einstein's definition of stupid and replace it with a stock one.

Vandezand- Get the plog and call it done. No sense in changing out the rear manifold as stated above. As far as cracks go I know the ones that have the most issues are the turbo guys who do not use the stainless steel version. Since the wife's car is more than likely a daily and nothing more I'd go with the plog as its most likely cheaper than an OEM replacement or a tad more.

Sorry, but I agree to disagree, the exhaust is the most restrictive part of the intake/exhaust train. The efficiency by opening up the exhaust helps tons, or the plog would make no sense. Fact is, you wanna go cheap, then sure, go with the plog and call it a day as you say. But for investing a little more you get the whole kitten/kaboodle!

I also disagree with your assessment that a Transmission is best investment as it is counter intuitive to the application as you pointed out its his wife's car and a dd to boot, not drag stip wonder car. Headers... Simple thing that sets the stage for anything else that comes along afterwards. You're not needing to invest in a built tranny unless hitting 350 whp, so what are we talking about here?

    Plog $159
ubend delete $39 (cause you ain't doing the plog without this)
    ---------
    Headers SD $220+

So, with cost being equal, I would give the opened flow to both front and rear via headers, it's simple.

Okay thanks for all the help guys. Is a ubend delete necessary as Coolone mentioned with the plog? I also looked on speed daddy website and saw they only have headers for the 97-03. Does this matter? do they fit the 04-08s?

I never said opening the exhaust was a bad idea. It would make no sense on a daily driver for someone looking to just replace the front exhaust manifold and not concerned with anything else to purchase headers.

The person I responded to said the best investment for the car was headers. If one were inclined to even consider headers they are wanting to go faster. With going faster means you obviously want to abuse the car which means more abuse on the tranny. And just curious where are you coming up with this 350whp assessment is when you need to consider a new trans? That's laughable at best seeing how the more abuse you put on a tranny the higher the potential it has for going out.
