The crossover and rear manifold normally don't get touched when people buy a plog. The rear manifold is better flowing than the front cast manifold. It has its own "runner", "tubes" for each cylinder where as the front they all go straight into a restrictive exhaust manifold.
Don't waste your money and just buy speed daddy headers
I've got a stock 05 gt and im not really looking to upgrade yet as its the wifes car... She doesn't like me tinkering with her car. Anyways I noticed i have an exhaust leak on the #5 port and i was looking for a cheap replacement. I haven't taken it apart yet to see if it is the gasket or the manifold is cracked.
The price you would pay for plog and ported rear mani you can but a set of headers for 217 shipped
Unless you plan on just replacing the front manifold
yeah i dont really have too much planned for the car now. Id love to do a top swap and hopefully get to someday. So yes for now i was just thinking about replacing the front manifold.
the plog is great, a ton of us run/have run them.
Trust me wasn't trying to knock it! Just didn't know how far ya were going with it and didn't want ya to waste your money if you haven't done research in the site and found the cheap stuff.
I see alot of people have them in their sig thats why i was asking about them. Ive gon to zzp website and found them used for like 100 but im not sure i want to do that. Id rather buy them new. One of the reviewers wrote that the plog cracked a few weeks after install, has anybody here ever heard of that or ran into that problem?
Plogs are good. Had one on my old car and just installed one the other day on this car. Never cracked on my old car after a full year with it. It gives a nice hp bump and gives better flow. It works well, proba
bly not as good as headers but better
then stock.
IMHO, installing the plog is like installing just one side of headers... Sure it's gonna work better but why go half way?
Headers - pound for pound and dollar for dollar are the best investment you can make for this vehicle.
Just my $.02
Because its for his wife and there's no sense in wasting that kind of money(additional modifications to make it work) and time on the cheap ****ty headers with huge ass primary's that are not needed on the majority of 3800 S/C setups. Bigger is not always better but most of you guys believe that. It's rather humorous actually. And headers are not the best investment, a trans is :P because it will eventually go out. Then most will demonstrate Einstein's definition of stupid and replace it with a stock one.
Vandezand- Get the plog and call it done. No sense in changing out the rear manifold as stated above. As far as cracks go I know the ones that have the most issues are the turbo guys who do not use the stainless steel version. Since the wife's car is more than likely a daily and nothing more I'd go with the plog as its most likely cheaper than an OEM replacement or a tad more.
I'd throw headers on there if it were me but a plog would be a simple install it'll only take maybe 30 min or so. I'm still on my stock trans btw![]()
Sorry, but I agree to disagree, the exhaust is the most restrictive part of the intake/exhaust train. The efficiency by opening up the exhaust helps tons, or the plog would make no sense. Fact is, you wanna go cheap, then sure, go with the plog and call it a day as you say. But for investing a little more you get the whole kitten/kaboodle!
I also disagree with your assessment that a Transmission is best investment as it is counter intuitive to the application as you pointed out its his wife's car and a dd to boot, not drag stip wonder car. Headers... Simple thing that sets the stage for anything else that comes along afterwards. You're not needing to invest in a built tranny unless hitting 350 whp, so what are we talking about here?
Plog $159
ubend delete $39 (cause you ain't doing the plog without this)
---------
Headers SD $220+
So, with cost being equal, I would give the opened flow to both front and rear via headers, it's simple.![]()
Well normally I would tell you headers > plog any day but do to the reasoning and it being your wife's DD. Looking at a 30 min install vs a weekend install if you never installed headers on our cars it could take some time.
Okay thanks for all the help guys. Is a ubend delete necessary as Coolone mentioned with the plog? I also looked on speed daddy website and saw they only have headers for the 97-03. Does this matter? do they fit the 04-08s?
Sorry, read that wrong and thought you said 04, ubend is one of the most restrictive parts of the exhaust, and one of the first things I would do

I never said opening the exhaust was a bad idea. It would make no sense on a daily driver for someone looking to just replace the front exhaust manifold and not concerned with anything else to purchase headers.
The person I responded to said the best investment for the car was headers. If one were inclined to even consider headers they are wanting to go faster. With going faster means you obviously want to abuse the car which means more abuse on the tranny. And just curious where are you coming up with this 350whp assessment is when you need to consider a new trans? That's laughable at best seeing how the more abuse you put on a tranny the higher the potential it has for going out.
