Can anyone say weather a shop with a scanner can check an ECM out of the car on a 2000 grand prix gt, or does the car have to be towed to the shop to have it checked? I have a suspicion that mine has died and need to have it checked.

Code reader error says "interface not detected"?
If so; check fuse cigarette lighter circuit, glove box, pull cover (right side) fuse missing or just burnt. Had that very problem two days ago, weird right?
The problem is it won't start, the service engine light doesn't come on when I turn the key to on position, the fuel pump doesn't prime (it's new now with a new relay), it just acts like it is brain dead and I was wondering if it can be checked out of the vehicle.
Check the fuse like rmcardle3 says and hook up a cheap code reader to see if it communicates.
So the engine spins but doesn't start?
If the dash lights come on when you turn the key, the PCM is not dead.
You still have a wire issue and or power problem to your fuel pump.
Were you just saying that the fuel pump doesn't prime? But you have a new fuel pump, right? If so, I would be sure to check for a clogged filter, especially if you just put a new fuel pump in. Did you invest in a new fuel filter as well? If not, you may be pushing gas into a blocked fuel filter and that's exactly what my blocked fuel filter sounded like (when you turn the key on and wait, the fuel pump doesn't whine like it should for 5 seconds or so). BTW My fuel pump probably failed "because" my fuel filter was blocked. Just an idea though, good luck.
I really appreciate everyone's help on this subject it has taken me a few weeks of investigation but I finally found the problem, which I am glad I did, the next thing for me to do was to start throwing money at it. Well there is a wire harness running from behind the battery and connects some into the fuse block under the hood then passes behind the over flow tank and then hits the fire wall and then down, well right above the rack and pinion before the wires go out of sight from above a varment of some sort chewed threw about I am guessing 5-8 wires in that area, so now I guess I will have to do some serious rewiring because it looks like it couldn't be a worse place to reach. I am happy and very sad all in the same.
