I've been trying to find a shudder/wheel-hop when accelerating from stop.

I've replaced pretty much every front-end suspension and powertrain component and the shudder (although less) is still there.

    I've replaced:

    - axles
    - LCA's
    - bj's
    - sway bar and bushings
    - struts
    - tires
    - motor and tranny mounts

In my despair that now the axles and motor mounts have not fixed it, I'm resigned to wonder if it's the tranny.

So, when I start from 1st, I get nothing but a smooth acceleration.

    Same with 2nd.

    In drive, I (sometimes) get a shuddering/wheel-hop.

I just changed my tranny fluid. Nothing weird there (slightly brown but not that bad).

    Any ideas????

Do you have your car lowered at all? I had some of those problems and thought it was axles nope it was the axle alignment I had to get shorter dog bones and pull the motor forward. Give it a shot before you replace your tranny.

Drain a quart of trans fluid out and add a quart of Lucas stop slip. I'd be willing to bet this is torque converter shudder. When was the last time plugs and wires were put in it? Clean the MAF lately? A bad plug or wire could cause this under a load when the TC locks in 3rd and the MAF can cause all kinds of wierd sh*t, lol...

Thinking about this ....what changes from 1 or 2 into D. The only change is the engagement of the 2-1 manual band in addition to the already engaged forward band. Your forward band may be glazed, worn, or about to snap. Breaking is very common on our transmissions for original forward bands.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

This is definitely not an engine issue - it's a physical shuddering.

    Bill's explanation makes sense.

I dropped the pan this weekend and changed the fluid. The fuild was fine, but the magnet had about 3/32" of metal dust stuck to it. It's the most I've seen before (especially considering the fluid was only about 14 months old).

Bottom line: a replacement band is basically a tranny rebuild. What is the ROM cost for this?
