Are there any mods on this car or is it stock? You could have a cylinder leakdown test done as well before pulling the head. It can tell you whether you have an intake valve, exhaust valve, piston/rings issue. Always nice to get an idea of what you're looking for before you go inside.
all stock
For your sake I hope it's a problem with a valve. If it's the piston rings then that means pulling the motor.
One way to check if the rings are bad is to pull the oil cap off while the car is running. If the rings are the problem there will be a lot of crank case fumes coming out of the oil fill hole. If there isn't any fumes coming out of the hole then you're probably looking at a valve problem.
what kind of fumes? will i be able to see it
Sometimes you can see it but the smell is a combination of exhaust, oil and gasoline. If the smell is only of oil then your probably good on the bottom end.
Don't put your nose there and smell it for a long time. That stuff is carcinogenic.
Looks like the head is coming off,
Why?
Compression test yet?
Ok car sent me for another turn i went to the dealershop where i use to work and they checked it out and said maybe a sticking valve so they told me to use some top engine cleaner so i did and then i said i wanna check the compression again which i did cold and hot, they are reading the same it seems to idle a little better this fricken car is driving me insane i let it idle for a bit after and the lgiht hasnt came on i just dont know what else i dont wanna take the head off i dont have to i also looked up about maybe carbon in valves and it says it can be that and sometimes you have to run two cans of cleaner though to get all of it. any ideas now
Its worth a try. I can't remember, have you tried Seafoaming it yet (in the oil). If the guide is sticky this may loosen it up and let the valve travel the entire stroke. That's if the problem is a stuck valve, of course.
seafaom worked so far runs smooth compression is back and no light thanks for everyones help lets see if it stays like this thanks again
If it fixed your problem, then seafoam truly is some amazing ****.....
it seemed to i got compression back and it runs smooth i think there was a chunk of carbon on the valve wouldnt let it seat properly
Awesome! I guess you put the Seafoam in the oil? This would suggest that the guide was sticking and would have nothing to do with the seat. If you put the Seafoam in the tank then yea, a carbon build-up on the valve/seat may have been the problem.
If the valve was sticking in the guide then don't be surprised if the problem returns...just saying.
i didnt put any in the oil just ran it though vaccum
Oh, OK...could have been carbon or a piece of the spark plug electrode caught between one of the valves and it's seat.
If I where you I would put a couple hundred miles on the car and remove #3 plug. Check the plug for normal color, wear, etc. Another compression test in that cylinder wouldn't hurt either.
yea i got to go to work monday thats about 254 miles one way
