when i drained the coolant it came out green, no discoloredness in appearance. i drained it via the peecock drainage.

edit-i tried to wash all of the dex-cool out last summer as much asi could via garden hose. i filled the radiator with water and let the car idle for a bit to let the water circulate around in the radiator and block then flushed it again then filled it with the green stuff
Hey fst, did the water pump bring your temps down to where they should be?? Also did you flush your system with the prestone flush?? I have a very similar problem and I'm running a 180* non-drilled thermo.

    Thanks

it brought the temps down to a lesser paranoid mode lol. i meant, that thus far with the way i drive on the freeway, the temps barely touch 200*F. i also swapped the drilled 180 t-stat with a nondrilled. i did NOT use the prestone flush, just garden hose and let water circulate around the coolant system then drained whatever came out of the peecock, which prolly still held some old sludge. i should of pulled the lower rad hose and let it drain that way >_>.

Sorry, I just ran across this thread, but I might have some insight for you. A friend of mine recently bought a GTP and was having quite the similar issue you are. His car was getting very hot, all the way up until it was almost in the red on the gauge. We went through everything, flushes, new water pump, two different thermostats, new hoses, etc.. It still did it. He finally replaced the temp sender (the one below the t-stat housing) and problem solved. It runs exactly where it should with a 180* t-stat and never moves. I can't say exactly WHY that was the problem, I just know that is what finally resolved it for whatever reason. Good Luck.

Edit: I see you got yours solved already. I'll leave this though for anyone else who's "tried everything".

thanks abrasive, i'll keep that idea in mind if the car still increases above the 'norm' in my driving.
