those are coolant elbows, can be found in the help section at your local parts store
Are they prone for going out and leaking like so? Does it really require sealant like there is posted in there picture? or did the previous owner do that to stop the leak?
but yes, they are very very common to break, leak, etc.
Ah then that would make sense! Thanks! I'm guessing it's pretty easy to replace? Just tug on it and replace it?
essentially... getting it out it may break so be prepared to pick plastic pieces out. getting em in. lube em up with crisco or whatever you have and slide it in very gently and let it take it's place in there.
What the hell?!? Just to get to this hose?? That's insane
insane? it's easy. EASYYY.
work on some other cars and then tell me this is insane. i can do this in like 10 minutes, plus coolant re-fill and bleed time
3 or 4 to get the alternator bracket and alternator off, then 3 i believe to get the tensioner bracket. then pull, then spew coolant, and put it back together![]()
Well what I'm saying is you have to remove the alternator just to get to a hose, that's pretty crazy. Never had to do that with any of my other cars.
I think thats the coolant elbow.
It's about 3 to 4 bolts. Pretty easy. lol
First you need to remove the belt. I find it easier to take the belt off by first removing the coolant reservoir. There are two 10mm nuts holding the reservoir down. Simply remove them and lift up on the reservoir and set it aside. Now that you have more room, take a 15mm wrench or socket on the tensioner and take the belt off.
Disconnect the alternator wire and plug.
Three 15mm bolts holding the alternator in place, remove those. Set alternator aside.
Three 15mm bolts holding the alternator bracket in place. Two are obvious, the other one you cant see but you'll find it.
Once you remove the bolts you can now carefully pull out the coolant elbows and replace with new ones. Heater Hose Fitting | 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 6 Cylinders 1 3.8L SFI SC OHV | AutoZone.com
Put a small amount of oil or vaseline on the orings before you put the new ones back in. Doesn't hurt to clean up the holes where they go into either.
Put everything back on and be done with it.
Your welcome......
I just got home and car is leaking underneath. Dripping on the transmission pan ,corner passenger side.
Looks like coming from above, probably elbows, could it be waterpump ? Will be able to see better in morning.
Leak is toward front of car, dripping above cv shaft forward of shaft.
and i've found..if you will just get the elbow partially in the tensioner while aiming it in the LIM hole, get it just seated. then get your 3 bolts started. push the elbow in and keep wiggling it to keep slack in it, and just keep moving it as you tighten it down and eventually it will fit in its spot and be a perfect 90 degree angle. make sure it's perfect or they'll leak again.
