I just bought an 01 GP GT coupe with 142k, I noticed that above 30-35 mph it vibrates a bit, I can feel it in the floor and seat but not in the steering wheel. Doesn't go away when I put it in neutral while cruising, I'm about to jack the car up and check for play in the wheels, and next week I'm going to have the tires balanced since I know the dealer put new tires on recently, any other suggestions if these are not it? Or what it most likely is if there is play in the wheels? Also, I noticed a slight hesitation when cruising at about 30-35 in third gear, seems to be chugging a bit. Is this a transmission issue, or maybe bad plugs? And finally, just a couple days ago the blower got stuck on defrost, the knob turns but doesn't change anything, probably a vacuum issue or electrical?

Update: just checked for play in all four wheels, they are all tight no play what so ever. I'm thinking this is either the tires needing to be balanced or possibly motor mounts. Any insight?

defrost is the default setting if there is no vacuum to the control. I'd search for a vacuum leak.

It seems to be working for now, didn't do anything it just came back. Checked the motor mounts they are good, I'm thinking the vibrating is just an off balance tire. Still unsure about the hesitation in the transmission though. Taking it in tomorrow to my dad's friend shop to take a look at it, neighbor said it's possibly the start of a bad torque converter, I hope he's not right.

I have a 2001 GT as well, that was having a transmission hesitation before it moved into hard shifts...then gave the PCS code, which is 1811 (I believe).
I would check the pcs first, the part is about $40 to get to it is a pain in the rear to get to but it can be done especially if you have a lift. I have mine on the lift currently and I am about to
    do a tranny rebuild.

If you think it's a tire out of balance move that tire to the rear and see if it makes any difference.

@Truckin, what is the pcs? I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, this is the first car that I'm going to try and really work on myself (with the help of my neighbor) he has a lift at his shop plus I have a drivetrain warranty that might cover it. @dsmuts I'm not sure which tire is off balance it's really hard to tell where the vibration is coming from, I think it's in the rear though.

Gold - PCS- pressure control solenoid (about a $40 part). The PCS is located on the side of the transmission. If I wasn't so tired I would go take pictures of it now. Do a search for it here, look for a gray magnifying glass towards the top of the screen, incase you haven't found it yet (not being sarcastic just giving some helpful advise, I had to ask where it was!). Ask Trannyman95 (Dave) if you get stuck getting to the PCS, he is the resident tranny expert. There are others that have just put in a shift kit(zzperformance.com is a popular one and I got mine from there as well) and they add a bottle of......lubricant that helps with transmission slipage...for the life of me I cannot think of the name but if you search for the pressure control solenoid, you will find out the name. Which doing this is I think a $150 repair and they folks that have done it have had no further issues with the solenoid.

Sounds like you have access to someone who can help you out with your car, which is awesome. If you feel like your are pushing your comfort zone on this then take it to a transmission shop. Around here(mid-georgia) it is about a $500 - $600 dollar job.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Awesome, I'm gonna see what the shop says tomorrow and go from there, if it's something covered under the warranty then I'll just let the dealership deal with it. Plus it could just be me being paranoid from all my past car problems and it might just be the vibration I'm feeling giving the impression of a shudder/hesitation, and my cousin works at a Discount Tire so he can balance my tires for free next week when he gets back, maybe that will take care of it. Also I checked the tranny fluid and it is burnt up pretty bad, so I'm going to drain and replace that to see if it helps any, plus I'll check out that lubricant and add that. Thanks for the help, I'll update when I know more!

BTW When you do your transmission flush use two filters! When you drop the pan and get rid of the old filter, install the first filter, is there to catch all the stuff that is in your transmission during the flush. Then drop the pan again install the second filter and fill'er up with Dex 6.

Don't flush your trans its not good on them. Just do a pan drop and filter change.

Yeah I wasn't planning on flushing, the dealership wanted to do one but I opted out. Do I need to worry about the gasket when I drop the pan? Or should I just check to make sure it's intact, which I think it is since there's no leakage.

Also, should I still use two filters if I'm just draining/replacing the fluid?

The stock trans pan gasket is metal, so clean it and re-use it, as for the filter just buy 1 trans filter from napa or where ever and 8 quarts of dexron 3. It will take around 7-7.5 most of the time.

Are you from Fridley, MN, by chance??

Indeed, I see you're in Rogers, used to hang out there a lot in the Dayton/Rogers area when I was in high school. On a totally off topic any idea how I can easily fix my sagging fuel door, I heard it's just a missing bolt is that right? I haven't gotten the chance to really take a good look at it yet.

Gold - I probably would if the fluid is as dark as you say it is. Drain the fluid slap in new filter fill the tranny back up drive it around for a few miles, change the fluid again and slap in the new filter. I am OCD that way. lol
