So I put a used tranny in my 04 gt1 and the first day it drove fine , now when it shifts gears it kicks and when I jumped on it..it stumbled![]()

Throw any codes? If it stumbled it might not be trans related at all.
When you say it didn't throw a code, did you scan it? Most trans codes don't flip on the light.
Did you get the same gear ratio? (I forget if all GP's were the same ratio etc... )
Weeeell if you didn't get the transmission from an 03+ buick regal ls/impala ls or an 04+ grand prix gt, you have a different gear ratio and your PCM is freaking out causing it to go into max adapt and uppin the line pressure all the way and causing your hard shifting and weird issues.
Well the tranny was on the motor and it wasn't supercharged , they say its from an 06 regal or impala. I was thinking of having it reprogrammed at the tranny shop , maybe that will help???
06 impala would have the 3.6 right? I'm thinking you might have one with the wrong gear ratio so you could get it tuned but i'm not sure how to find out what gear ratio you have.
so I took the car to the shop , and the guy tells me the tranny is fine but it has the wrong gear ratio , he tells me if I swap out my differential and it will be fine , my question is it hard to do? And can it be done with it in the car ???
It's easy to swap a diff.
Follow my how to remove an axle thread. I did that while swapping a diff. Only differences there are once the axle is out, you remove 4 13mm bolts on the diff to engine bracket, then two more 13's and the electrical connector to the diff cover speed sensor. After that the cover comes out and you are staring at the diff. Use a medium screw driver placed between the diff pin and the output shaft. Hit hard once to seperate them. It's a quick hit that compresses the c clip. Your diff is now in your hand. Put new diff in (might need a second person on driverside to tap inner cup of CV to seat the output shaft into the diff.
****IF the diff cover does not sit flat and perfect on the trans, there is a bearing that slid out of place. When the diff is out, the bearing is behind the parking gear. I typically use a little trans gel (aka a little grease) to hold it to the park gear, then reassemble.
Ok thanks billboost37 , I just talked to the yard I got it from and they are going to pay to have it swapped out cause it's gotta be opened and it's under warranty, so that works for me right ??? : ) scored huh !!!
Good deal, can't beat that.
Well..... ( brand used trans ) means , it's not new or rebuilt , and it's a in side joke over here with me and my buddies.it's used but BRAND NEW in my car hahahaha
