So many of you know ive got quite a few things that needs work on my 97 grand prix gt. Ive changed out sparkplugs, got new wires, and today had a new fuel filter put in(this was badly needed and it took two days to get it off and was full of rusty fuel). Had been working on getting the crankshaft sensor replaced because the only bad thing the car has done is shut off a few times on its own. I had the codes read on the car the other day and it came back with code PO336,PO401,PO441. Anyway the car has at least been starting right up and running with no real issue other than the random shutdown, however tonite i started it up and while it was in idle after a few normal minutes it started to buck a bit. I put it in drive and seemed to be a bit rough but was ok. Until i had to stop then it started to shutter and shack and puff. I would almost say like a car not getting enough gas or running out of gas(and i will put some gas in it to make sure its not simply out). I also happened to notice that before it shut off the exhaust seemed to be thick white smoke, but even that im not too sure because its cold here and the car always emits alot of exhaust smoke til it warms up.

Crankshaft position sensor fault... maybe bad connection or bad sensor?
EGR open? Could this be caused by a CPS issue?
EVAP canister clogged or gas cap bad/loose/off

If the EGR is opening at idle, it makes the car sound like it's got a nasty-ass lopey cam. It will also show up on a scanner while the car runs. It should be open 0% at idle.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Well at the moment the car is not even starting. Wondering if its the fuel pump as i am not hearing it. It should make a noticable noise, especially if i have my ear in the trunk, right?

Yes, you should hear the fuel pump whine for 2 or 3 seconds at key turn. Check your fuses first, then maybe try the fuel pump relay as that is a known issue as well.

Check your coolant level. And check a plug to see if it's wet. I know that sounds seriously screwy. Your a GT with a plastic upper intake known to crack and put coolant into the engine. If you are seeing heavy white smoke and it's not condensation, it's likely coolant from your upper manifold.

Check asap, because after a little smoke and the engine not running (wet plugs don't toss a spark) next up is hydrolock and thats a bad thing for bearings.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
