Hello - new to the forum

I'm looking for instructions on how to replace the A/C control unit on a 2001 Grand Prix. Hopefully with pictures/instructions to avoid breaking panel clips for the panel covers etc.

    TIA

    Wayne

If you're just replacing the panel with the switches/knobs, that's easy. Don't worry about breaking your main dash trim. It won't break. Just use your hands (no tools) and pull straight out. They will release no problem. Once you get that off, its just screws holding the hvac panel into the dash.

    Thanks,
I take it you didn't follow the steps that the Chilton manual called out? (it shouldn't be this complicated) :-)

    _________________________ Chilton Manual __________________________

    1. Remove the instrument cluster trim plate, using the following as a guide:

      • Remove the left instrument panel insulator.
      • Remove the under-steering column opening filler panel.
      • Remove the knee bolster (knee pad) bracket.
      • Remove the nuts holding the steering column bracket to the instrument panel frame and allow the steering column to drop down.
      • Grasp the instrument panel trim plate bottom edge on both sides of the steering column and pull to release the retainer clips. Continue pulling to release the remainder of the clips.
      • Detach the electrical connector from the fog lamp switch, if equipped.
      • Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate from the instrument panel.

    2. Remove the screws holding the heater & A/C panel to the instrument panel and gently pull the assembly from the instrument panel. Detach the electrical connector(s) from the back of the panel. Some models may have a vacuum line connection that must also be removed.

I give it a try without the Chilton steps.
