Changed a lower ball joint on my 2002 gp and noticed the stabilizer bar is cracked in half. Anyone changed these before? Any sugestions before I begin? Is this a safty issue or can I let it go until my funds let me? Thanks in advanced!

the car just handles a little more poorly, i drove around witha cracked one for awhile.

and theyre kind of a pita to change, i suggest dropping the rear of the cradle, makes it alot easier, make sure to support it when you do that though

i didnt find it that difficult. i crossethreades a bolt putting the new one back on, so be careful.

i drove for months without replacing it. had to do my control arm bushings so i decided to replace the bar to.

JP..you need a better yard. JY $10 here. Get it off a Impala or Monte for the GMPP version.

Dorman sells a solid one for around $100.

It's overall not a bad job, just tight. Lower the back of the cradle 2-3 inches for more room.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I just popped one of the outer tierosd off (unbolted), and made sure it didn't spin, so alignment was not affected.

ive been riding mine around with it completely rotted through and not connected to my sway bar links and bushings. very annoying but thats about it. just annoying. so broke that i dont have 90 bucks for a new one. i wont get a junk yard one because even if it was 10 bucks, id have to get links and bushings for each side which is 20 bucks then some rustoleum paint or something to prevent rust which is at least 10 bucks. so thats 40 bucks. id rather wait till i have 50 more for a Doramn sway bar, a much better design that will stiffen my handling than the OEM hollow bar.

in other words op, its not a safty issue. back in the day they were optional on vehicals.

do it now or when you have the money. junkyard swaybar and sway bar links (almost guranteed to break). links are only 4 bucks.

the cradle is what the engine sits in and is bolted to, if you look under your car you will see 4 bolts at the ends of the this cross frame, aka cradle, kinda like a K member, put a jack under the back side, where the rack and pinion is, loosen the back 2 bolts and lower the jack, don't let the cradle hang on the bolts, leave the jack under it/ holding it up still while working on it., when done jack it back up and tighten the bolts back up. mine were 18 mm bolts.
