Although it does sound like a rod knock, have you tried removing the belt and starting it for a short time to see if the noise stops? Obviously don't let it run for more than a minute or 2 w/o the belt.
I've done work on other cars where accessories go bad and have a knocking noise (waterpump once, tensioner pulley x2). I just wonder that if at 80mph (which would be about 2500+ rpms in a GT) something is wobbeling enough to be picked up by the knock sensors?
Just trying to look at this from another angle (hopefully a less costly one)
