I haven't had AC for the past 2 years. Last year I tried to test my compressor and I'm pretty sure its bad. It was making loud noises before my ac stopped working and last year when my dad and I jumped the compressor, it ran but was noisy. We filled the system but the leak is so bad it came back out very fast. I was going to just deal with the no AC but I now have an 8 month old that I pick up after work a few days a week and would like to try to get it working again.

I found a place the sells re-manufactured AC compressors and because I'm pretty sure mine needs to be replaced I am going to buy one. My question is after 2 years without the system charged, what else would need to be replaced? O-rings and a drier? or more than that?

My plan is to install any new parts I need and then take it to a shop to have them vac and fill it or leak test it to if needed. I really don't know about ac systems so any help will be appreciated.

Replace the orifice tube and accumulator and you should be good to go.

if you replace the compressor there is a part in line of the hoses, fat round aluminum thing, its like a muffler,( i forget what its called) that should also be changed, new is preferred, if you don't change it the new compressor will die soon, it holds crap in it and flushes it into the new compressor, kind like re building a trans and not changing the torque converter. any reputable shop should tell you to get one of these too.

my ex used to work for a place called the radiator store, they sold a/c parts as well and she would tell me the stories of ppl buying just a compressor and 3 weeks later buy another compressor and the other part she tried to sell then the first time.

and don't bother just trying to change the clutch assembly, its not worth it in the long run.

i tell ya the only thing i miss about her was paying cost for all these expensive parts.

The thing you are thinking of is the orifice tube that I said and a clutch kit is worth it if thats the only thing thats wrong.

yes clutch kit is worth it, "IF" thats whats wrong, most of the time its not whats wrong.

if it hasnt ran in 2 years its a good idea to replace the orings too. you can get a pack of them at Autozone or other parts store. they are a universal pack of AC orings that are green.

ok doesn't seem too bad so far with what I will need if the compressor is my only problem. Hopefully this is all that's wrong because I really don't want to drop a lot of money into the AC. Parts wise right now isn't too expensive, hopefully I can find a shop to test it, vac and fill it for a good price too. thanks
