I have a 97 GTP that a couple months ago had the parking lights on but the lights were off so it drained my battery but after a charge everything was fine. Well now the other night when I put key in ignition it does the dinging and the battery, gas, temp and other helper lights turn on but as soon as I go to turn it over the power is gone totally. Start with checking the battery connections, make sure they are clean, if they are clean then I would start with a new battery.

x2 on new battery...when you drain one to completly dead like you did in your case with the lights, it drastically reduces the life of a battery

Batteries can die whenever they want, I've seen batteries last two years or like the one in my Trans Am lasted 7. Interstates are the best.
