These are 1/4 mile times to be expecting after the said mods are done.these are estimates.Very close estimates to my knowledge

I was Attempting to give some help to a member when i was asked for my opinions...There are a lot of good posts already about what to do but most importantly what not to do but i figured the more the better. Again these are my opinions and am no way saying this is the only way moding should be done nor am i trying to talk bad about any company or indivdual in particular....Feel free to give me any constructive thoughts on my comments...heck i could even learn something out of this...and im sure there is something that could be altered or put into better words...again i did my best...If you dont like it dont look....and thanks go out to any one who has actually help me to learn any of this info for myself...

I did my best and mainly based my statements on times and combos that i know would acheive these times...i do a lot of reaserch and talk to a lot of people and also pay close attention to there mods...i was a tenth of a second off of guesing what my actual time 1/4 mile wise would be on the first trip to the track after my mods on my grand prix...same with my mustang...again this is what I feel will work best...it is you money and i want you to spend it how you want to.Not how i want you to.Most importantly if anyone has ANY questions about ANYTHING that i have mentioned or think there is a better way please let me know. Its hard to say exactly when to buy what to save you some money because i dont know how much money anyone has and when they want to spend it...and it may be hard for you to figure this out also (it was for me lol)...so again i did my best...

I have come to the conclusion that- With stock heads to reach an e.t. that is less than mid 12's you are going to need an intercooler. This being because you are very limited in cam choices and kr will likley be present at an undiresable level at the time you reach mid 12's. This combo should be good for high 12's for sure.

    Tuner-500.00

XP hot cam-300.00-best cam for stock heads

    105 springs and retainers-170.00

    Pacesetter headers-359.99-uncoated

    Autolite 103's-10.00

    180* t-stat-10.00

    valve seals-18.99

3.2 mps-100.00-I am at 86% inj duty cycle now with a 3.2...Although people say that you cant go under a 3.1 with stock injectors i would not recomend going under a 3.2 with stock injectors.

    belt-25.00

    s/c coupler-30.00

northstar 77mm tb- 355.00-The reason i picked the n* tb over the zzp 78mm is because it comes with a lq4 maf sensor...this level of mods would be pretty close to maxing out the stock maf sensor...wich you would then need a lq4.the 1mm difference in the tb bore size would not matter.

    nitrous-at least a 75 shot-500.00

s/c ported matched inlet to match bigger t/b-Talk to Reptile

    s/c ported outlet-Again, Reptile

    cold air intake-180.00

    maybe a shift kit-100.00

The total for this is around 2700.00 probably including the s/c porting work. And again should bring you to a high 12. You want to go faster? onto the next package.

This combo should be good to real low 12's.Everything above plus...

2.9 pulley-50.00 (since you already have the mps)-smaller than a 2.8 would require the s/c snout to be machined.

    42.5# injectors-239.99

    f/s intercooler-1000.00

    built transmission-1600.00?

    slicks-300.00

    after market resignator and muflers-?

    new belt-25.00

    ported heads-?

Now this does not include gaskets or any of the small stuff that doesent really cost much..but does add up..so don't forget about that. With stock heads don't worry about getting higher ratio rocker arms...stick with the stock 1.66's,when you in the heads go ahead and replace the valve seals...they pop out and the new ones pop right in.

now this is some of the reasons why i belive the below kit is not a good choice....I have added a note onto some of the part listing endings..

This is what the stage xx kit has:

Comp Cams custom cam and upgraded Comp Cam valvetrain components-may not even work on stock heads...does not specify..and what valve train componets are upgraded??? probably bull**** stuff...if it were anything big like lifters ect i think they would list it...probably valve locks or something lol...20 bucks for those lol

Thrasher Transmission Shift Kit ---not a bad ide and may help your tranny clutches last a tad bit longer when reaching low 13's

SLP Performance Parts Coated Exhaust Headers with 3 different downpipe options----slp is just plain expensive with the same overal design as others

PRJ Performance Ignition Wires----good wires but stock will do just fine---stock coils also

DynoMax Super Turbo Cat-Back Exhaust System with the option to upgrade to the SLP “Loudmouth” Exhaust System---again does not specify anything..you do not need a turbo exhaust when you do not have a turbo...will likely hurt you more than anything...turbo exhaust is usually anywhere from 3 1/2'' to 4'' sized piping and when a turbo was present would help the turbo spool up quicker reaching max boost

Digital Horsepower Inc. customized PCM.---no no and another big no..i would never do this...even on a stock car...i was going to get one but then quickly changed my mind after doing some reaserch...

your choice of either a 3.4”, 3.25”, or 3.0” pulley ---3.0 would surely require bigger injectors wich they do not offer in this kit...so it AMAZES me why they would even offer a 3.0 pulley...very bad on there part.

your choice of either a Press-On Pulley or the upgraded Thrasher Modular Pulley System--mps all the way

Thrasher Cold Air Induction Kit with the option to upgrade to the MSP Cold Air Induction System---ummm this is preference but i like my jmb

Goodyear Gatorback Supercharger Belt---way to expensive...i think the prices START at like 35.00...just get a gates or napa belt

160-degree or 180-degree SLP Performance Parts Thermostat---kinda preference here also...i have a 160 but a 180 may be more benefitial.

Optional Coolant Recovery Bottle for 1997-1998 owners-you need this if you have a 97-98 as stated

Optional Intake F-duct for 1997-1998 owners upgrading to the MSP CAI System--im not sure what this is-i own a 1999

Optional Thrasher Supercharger Pulley Puller Tool for Rental or Purchase---get brian to press your mps hub on when you do the s/c porting

well mine ran a 14.65 with a 2.1 60ft with off road dp and a p-log with hp tuned shift settings and a maf tune....tuned tranny tables are good for about a tenth in the 1/4 for sure...if you can get a good 60' then i would say a 14.8 wouldnt be to far fetched at all...there are a lot of factors though.....

What do you think I should run w/ 3.4, 104's, 180*, 3" DP, CAI, 1.9 rockers, ZZP PCM? Impala SS is the car. Trying to get into the mid 13's!

I wouldnt run this combo before getting full headers. fwiw I know a guy with the same combo as you mentioned but with pacesetter headers and STOCK rockers and he is getting around 3-4 degrees of kr...wich is not good...i am thinking the 1.9 rockers that i am about to put on his car will help a lot with that issue along with tuning his pcm for him...should be fine then.

as for mid 13's...i my self am in the 13's now...the mods in my sig is what it usually takes....you could chage it up a little though like for example...

instead of the fs intercooler get the shortstack and run the 3.2 (i wouldnt go much lower in pully size with a ss though)

or replace the 1.9rr (leave stock ones on) and the fs ic with an xp cam.....just some examples...with the above combo you will blow up you car before it even thinks about mid 13's...with the above combo you would probably run a 14.6 because of all of the kr you would have...

A 3.6 pulley is what you should run.

There are still a few people running 160's. Back before the wbody group had tuners and other means of KR reduction, it was one other way of controlling knock. There are many more options now, without the negative side effects.

As far as the SS and mods, I have first hand experience. Even with headers, DP, 104's, 180* 1.9 rockers, CAI and some small items, I could barely pull off running a 3.5 pulley. I could run nearly KR free, but had to run too rich of an AFR to quench that KR. Rich AFR= slow or slower than it should be.

I ordered a aeroforce scan gauge to help monitor my KR. Not too sure how much I have now. I actually went to track not too long ago and actually pulled a 14.2 @ 99 mph. I will definately pick up the headers though. I also am considering the SS IC. Any recommendations for monitoring KR closer?

For monitoring KR the Aeroforce is a great choice. To go along with that, mod appropriately and tune with some cushion built in.

When going with the SS IC get the best FMHE you can. If buying the kit from ZZP consider calling and having them upgrade you to this ZZ Performance

if piecing together a SS IC kit consider this Air to Water Heat Exchanger

I was actually talking to you, I thought you meant you something different when you typed in DODS but you meant mods. Sorry about that. Mods are
3.4 MPS, 3 DP, 104's, 180* Tstat, ZZP PCM, 1.9 RR, retainers and springs, K&N CAI
