I opened my hood before starting my car today after work to show a friend my intake and how I made it, and when I did so, there was a loud ticking noise coming from the belt side of the engine, I narrowed it down to the SC snout... After about 5 minutes of attempting to troubleshoot what it could be the noise disappeared and then it turned into a little crunching noise about every 4-5 seconds without doubt.

Any ideas what it could be or how I can troubleshoot/fix this???

    Thanks.

take the belt off and see if it go's away.

if it does, then you know its something to do with the SC, or the pulley on that belt.

I think I may have just fixed it. The ticking anyway. Or both.

I looked around on the internet and found this in Eaton's help section -
"The supercharger does make noise, it is supposed to. Under boost it will make a wonderful whine sound that most find very pleasant. At idle it will make a rattling like sound. That is from gear slack in the nose drive."

And as for the ticking noise, I checked the oil, it said to add a qt. So I did, I am thinking it may have been the lifters. Thank god I caught it early. Let's hope that was the issue and I caught it before damage occurred. I will see tomorrow morning though!

It could also be the coupler is wearing and is loose.

Might want to check the S/C fluid level before that though.

I actually just two days ago (maybe yesterday, days are meshing together) replaced the Supercharger oil with 2-4oz bottles of the GM stuff from the dealer. When I took out the old, it was black and barely 1 bottle full it looked like. I added the clear, 8 oz. That probably made a difference.

The noises are no more, I am glad. It was worrying. I am for sure going to get a coupler thursday though. While I have it apart, would it be wise to change bearings at same time?

bearing changes are tricky on these things.

Coupler and fluid change is about all you can do yourself without any more advanced tools.
