Hey guys I hope you can help me out.

I have a 98, 38 GTP and a water pump almost pulled out except for two bolts.

One is behind the power steering pump and I understand that you drop both bolts through the holes in the pulley and just move it over. I also understand that it is hard to get back on the threads.

The other bolt is located under the idler pulley on the right side facing the engine. I can not get to it with a ratchet but can hit it with a box end.

Will the length of the bolt hit the pulley and do I have to remove it?

Any tips will be GREATLY appreciated because it is real cold out, I have a couple of bad disks in my back and the angle that I have to bend over to take this pump out could cause another disk to blow so I am trying to limit my time discovering how to do this.

Thanks for any help and tips!

Lower the ps pump. It's not tough to put back. Two 13mm bolts throught the pulley. Leave the bolts in the pump when you lower it. To put it back on, simply ensure the lower bolt is not sticking toward the block and put a socket on the upper bolt..eyeball where it goes and poof, it's on. Swing it in place and the lower bolt goes in.

The idler. Couple of ways to address it. Pull the pulley off, then you can remove the three 10mm bolts and the idler stand or if you look at the stand, you can grind it in the 10-11 o'clock area to allow you room for a socket. The part you'd grind isn't used for anything and simply covers part of the back of the pulley. It's completely optional to the part. If you remove the bolts, remember to use a pipe sealant with ptfe on them when you put them and the 4 long water pump bolts in. They go into the water jacket and could leak if not sealed.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Hey Bill,
    thanks for replying.

On that Idler pulley can I pull it with a torex driver and a box-end or ratchet?

Can I use white plumbers ptfe tape I should I go but some permatex?

Thanks again, I can do most anything on any car but this angle is very bad for me and I cant hold it for very long.

I forget what the W has on it.. probably a torx bit holds the pulley. The bolts will be 10mm bolts.

I'd say no on the teflon tape. Permatex probably makes one.. but I hit up HD and the plumbing section. They hae a sealant with ptfe in a nice sized container on the cheap. I use a lot working on tons of cars.
