ok so i just bought my 2000 gtp about a month a ago and i decided id become a forum member because i love this car and i honestly think the best way to keep a car in good shape is to know about trouble spots and all that and also to safely mod was to join a community of people who know first hand from experience and so far ive had so many questions answered through this forum and in appreciation i wanna do my part in sharing my experiences on the car with everyone here, this is my first forum post and i hope i can help at least one person who has encountered the same annoying problem as me,
when i first got the car i realized the shifter had a button on it that i originally thought was for overdrive as is on most cars, but quickly threw that idea out after driving it. so i read the manual, only to find out.... awesome performance shift. the idea of higher shift points with the click of a button made me pretty excited to try out but when i clicked the button and nothing changed or lit up i was disappointed to say the least. i figured after reading on the forums its was weird that in the DIC no light for performance shift came on when i did key on light check and nor did a light come on in the instrumental panel, so one night i ripped up the center console and took off the shifter to check if maybe the button was shot but it checked out when i ohm checked it and then when i checked KOER for a voltage to the plug that the shifter plugs into, i found there was none. so luckily i have access to mitchell and i printed out the four page long map from the pcm to shifter, along with every other pcm output printed on it. so i checked for a supply voltage at the pcm, and i was getting a signal, good now i know the pcm isnt trash. so after tracing the wire back i found that i was getting voltage all the way to a place i had no idea it ran to (this in mind that i read somewhere the performance shift light is linked to the DIC on the 2000 model year) hey the INSTRUMENTAL CLUSTER and for some reason the light and light holder was missing completely. it actually looked like there was never a holder there to begin with. so i pulled the light holder and light out of my low fuel light seeing as how its useless because my sending unit doesnt read right, lol. anyway that in turn supplied voltage to the shifter and now when its pressed the light in the instrumental cluster not the DIC lights up and the shifting steps up to a reasonably "fun" level.
the performance shift is nothing crazy but the reason not having it was unacceptable for me was because when i do end up getting a tuned pcm i want to have the amped up performance shift option and not have it on all the time because lets face it 93 octane gas aint cheap and if i can save on trips when im not messin with ricers in my area im gonna do a lil investigation.
hope this helps for anyone encountering problems with this area PM me for any details i think i covered everything also i still have the full pcm wiring diagram so if anyone wants to know about any locations of pcm wires id be happy to help with that to
